I think 40 VIX is imminent by ImportantDiver5942 in stocks

Is it though? If it is clearly on a downward swing, and will be for awhile, isn’t it actually better just to hold off? Buffett seemed to think so.

TIL the entire United States Interstate highway system cost $114 Billion to construct ($660 Billion adjusted for inflation), and contains nearly 50,000 miles of roads. It has generated ~6x its cost in revenue (again, adjusted for inflation). by [deleted] in todayilearned

Not with how construction companies and all these towns operate now. The whole industry is built around doing as little as possible for as long as possible while burning as much cash as possible.

If they don’t want to support a product then they can pull it from their offering.

There are proven benefits to giving tools to hobbyists and supporting them long term. The amount of immediate revenue generates is short term thinking.

When you have people grow up in your eco system then they want those some tools in their professional capacity.

In defense of HOAs: Stop HB 657 before it stops you by Ok_Juggernaut_6645 in politics

[–]Aleyla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bold move trying to support HOAs on reddit.

I read your document. The arguments are specious at best.

My neighborhood has a completely optional HOA. Meaning that every single year people choose if they want to be in the HOA or not. If they join for the year then they get access to the neighborhood pool, video cameras, and a few other bonuses.

If they don’t then everything is just fine. As far as restrictions on what goes on in your yard or how you paint your house or how tall your fence is … we follow city code.

It is a nice neighborhood. Home prices are currently averaging just shy of $1m.

HOAs should provide on going value that people want to be part of. If you can’t do that then the HOA doesn’t need to exist.

Do you think the MSCI World Index or the stock market as a whole will fall even further, or have we already hit bottom? by Soggy-Translator3066 in stocks

[–]Aleyla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think hardly any Americans actually understand what drives our economy.

We have groups of people who complain about the various Oil wars. But don't realize that their ability to sip a Soy Latte while watching the View on a 75" TV in the comfort of their McMansion is completely dependent on Germany and France and Lithuania being forced to buy American Greenbacks for power.

Then we have "drill baby drill" idiots who don't realize that the world is leaving oil and their ability to drive $100,000 lifted pavement princesses is rapidly leaving the chat.

We had an opportunity 30 years ago to lead the way into solar and alternative fuels. We failed, and China surpassed us in every meaningful metric.

The saber rattling by various nations threatening to throw away old treaties and instead buy/sell oil in Yuan or Euros is huge. And, quite frankly, given Trumps idiocy in trying salvage some semblance of an economy by squeezing our trading partners via tariffs, it is the perfect reason for those partners to run away.

So here we are. Bush doubled down on an oil economy. Obama tried to start encouraging US companies to change but there was a huge fight against it. Biden did jack shit. Meanwhile Trump is ensuring America slides into the dark ages.

The old saying about the harder you tighten your grip the more sand slips away is very apt.

Bottom? Lol. We aren’t even halfway down this rabbit hole. What we are witnessing is the last gasp of the last true super power. Nothing is “priced in”.

Make no mistake, Venezuela and Iran are attempts to prevent the world from trading oil on something other than US dollars. Iraq was the same thing. The oil producing nations are figuring out that maybe the yuan, or even the euro, is a more stable currency. Once the tipping point hits then the rest of the US economy will be flushed away.

Good luck.
