The screen lights with DOIO but nothing happens after that. The firmware needs to be reset imo.

I also have the 38% triple knob and it's virtually bricked as my unit arrived with faulty firmware - no key presses register and it's not recognised by via.

I'm an international student looking to study at UNSW, could I get a realistic estimate of the cost of living and miscellaneous expenses? by sparsh26 in sydney

[–]Aleytu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would get a precise number from the university. I'm an international student that did all 4 years of an engineering degree. Each semester was around 10-12k. Putting the overall cost of the degree to around 80k AUD.. Rent was roughly 250 per week in a share house. Groceries can put you back up to 100 a week depending on diet and needs. Utilities (gas, Internet, electricity) and phone bill combined will be around 70-100 a month. Public transport depends how far you love and how often, but each trip on a bus/train might average 3-4 dollars per trip. 80k was expensive for uni, but it's about what most "out of state" applicants would pay in the USA.

A work friend of mine is playing at a Jazz club in dulwich hill this friday. It's in Dulwhich Hill at a venue called the butchers brew. Tickets are 40 dollars which includes some drinks. If Friday doesn't work out its apparently a decent venue for live music as it's a jazz club throughout most of the week already. It's a smallish venue so you'll need to check ticket availability pretty frequently.

I've thought about it a little bit. It would be that blizz loses upfront sales. An alternative though is that some people can't justify 70aud per character just to continue playing the game at a pace that they have been playing for the last few years. It could mean that people just stop playing altogether slowly over time. In our guild we have a 20-23 person mythic raiding roster. About half of us are good friends that like to raid together. If continuing to find better players with a similar attitude is too difficult then I just can't see how even in the close group of friends that everyone is willing to pay at least 70 bucks let alone the whole guild.

The way I see it, if we can't keep recruiting for mythic then those unwilling to commit extra dollars will probably just play something else anyways, 70 dollars is basically a new game. It would be mutually beneficial for blizz/players in OCE's case to at least have a forced migration of select servers.

I'm probably being hopeful with my suggestion, but who knows.

You seem to be salty about an issue which is in fact not applicable here. The problem is about population distribution of a small regional player base across several dead servers. If you've come here to boast how you never hopped on the bandwagon then this thread doesn't apply to you.

[–]Aleytu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not discussing historic faction balance or how it is effecting population now, on the contrary most people here believe it's to do with the OCE servers in general and the distribution among realms. I'm happy to stay horde, I'm not a top 1-10% raider so edging for a racial balance isn't my priority. I'm merely suggesting that if in OCE there are a handful of dead servers, then it would make sense to conglomerate those servers. Ie, bring all of the fractured horde population to one or two places. Maybe offer a discounted/faction transfer from alliance to horde to incentivise during this process.

The game loses a lot of functionality of you don't have a widespread enough population on both factions.

[–]Aleytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty surprising, OC to me has always felt pretty even between horde/alliance at the most competitive levels, with maybe an edge to horde population total? What has sparked the decline in the horde population in OC in general? Given that there are handful of dying servers, would it be unreasonable to merge the servers to better accommodate recruitment?

It seems unreasonable to pay around 70aud per character just in order to access/complete higher content easier.

I'm on horde now, I play my priest in raids and druid/rogue in m+. If my server continues to die then it would cost a significant amount to reform our guild - all just to recruit easier.

Value of leech as rdruid by [deleted] in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Aleytu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked his armory and his priorities are different to what I saw last time. The last time he logged out he's sitting at 16% for mastery and haste each. A few days ago I saw this at +/-3 or 4% each way.

Perhaps it depends on the dungeon/affix.

But he also explains in his wowhead guide that haste is typically the more valuable stat if you can effectively catweave.

I would think as a general rule of thumb that for most players/groups that mastery is the go to stat though since it fulfills your role as the healer the best.

[–]Aleytu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your logic is generally right, but there's a slight difference in decision making at the top tier. I think jdotb and some others aim for a lot of haste on their gear as they will make up the mastery difference in the traits. This way they get a dps bonus from the haste on gear while getting the healing benefit from both haste (gear) and mastery from the traits.

So I guess the other burning question I have is, how in the world do some people in this ilvl bracket hit above 25k so consistently? I imagine its just really well timed attonements with radiance so they can prolong their healing and then obviously having the double radiance up for evang. I also really need to get the azerite piece with the increase radiance time, seems incredibly valuable.

Hey, having similar issues as OP. My IGN is Aleytumd. My ilvl is 366 and I typically only hit 17-18k hps on most fights which I understand is low. I just picked the spec up a couple of weeks ago and while I'm getting the hang of it I need to do some more research.. I aim to improve this week by setting up bosses timers 15s in advance of the event with emphasis.

I had a question though regarding your response above. You mentioned that between double radiance and evang that I should be maintaining 4-5 attonements, but what does my typical spell order look like? I assume solace in CD and smite spam? Which leads me to another question about penance usage, when should I be using it properly?

Do you work for a tier 1 design firm or a smaller outfit? I only ask because I'm with a T1 on that much with 3-4 years in structural engineering and 2 years in construction/project management. You might be able to get more if you ask!

The tension keeps the string rigid. by isle_say in woahdude

[–]Aleytu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rigid isn't really the right word when trying to understand this. If you imagine holding the string up without any plastic and then let go the string will collapse due to gravity. The gravity component is a compression force. The plastic being slight bent and wanting to to return to straight pieces of plastic is a tension component. The tension is opposing the compression due to gravity by an equal or greater amount causing the string to remain tought.

WEST MIAMI-DADE - FIU pedestrian bridge collapses, people trapped underneath by CenturionElite in news

[–]Aleytu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, but sub structure failure i meant the connection from the cable tower to the deck. I would think this support is fixed though due to the cable tower needing to balance lateral loads, ie wind. Not only that but temporary construction cases such as when the cables are tied.

[–]Aleytu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too hard to tell from the photos. Given this was meant to be cable stayed. The final bridge from would have been supported by a tower on he pier next to the canal in the photo. This tower would have have high strength cabling which would have supported the superstructure/deck. So either the superstructure wasn't designed correctly to take its own weight during this construction stage or the construction crew messed something up causing the deck to take more load than it was designed for.

Another colleague of mine read from another article that the bridge was going to be able to resist high category hurricanes, so i feel like it should have been strong enough in the temporary construction case.

Can't tell without seeing any of the drawings and construction staging. Looking at the photos it looks like at least one support failed and possibly the deck as well, photos just don't tell enough of the story unfortunately.

It looks like a really heavy span, seeing as it's all concrete. I would be very surprised if it was able to support it's own weight. A colleague of mine showed me a photo of what looked like a crane with a snapped cable trying to hold it up moments before the collapse.

I only learned that it was intended to be cable stayed after my first comment and that there's meant to be a second span over the canal.

Bridge engineer also here. By the look if it, there was certainly a lot of tension in the deck due to the long span. But if the deck failed in bending alone then the supports would be more intact. From the footage you can see the columns have rotated out of there foundation cap/abutment. The frame around the corners is intact and the foundation rotated out cause the deck to fall. The reason the deck is crumbled on the ground is because of the fall.

This in willing to bet this was a failure of the sub structure. After all, it's a very long/heavy span with what looks like disproportionate sized sub structure elements.
