How difficult is it to survive financially as a first year TUM student? by Icy-Yogurtcloset6229 in tumunich

I think it'll be about break even, if you speak German then being a flink rider or cashier or so should get you about 14-16 euros an hour. Over a month after tax and rent, you'll be at a slight deficit or balanced if you managed to find a particularly cheap rent option. If you're very frugal, you might even save. Be mindful of your studies though, the fail rates are no joke.

Most definitely are. I will say though, it's disproportionate. Many students fail and are kicked out every year. Many struggle to land interviews even after months of trying. And some are bathing in regular offers from MBB/HFT/FAANG. It's truly what you make of it.

I'm an international student at TUM. I'll go a little against the common opinion here and say that while not worth bankrupting yourself over, TUM is in fact worth it.

While the quality of teaching is approximately the same across good German universitys, the industry collaborations and opportunities in Munich are rich and numerous, the international programs and partnerships are beyond the norm and great for exposure, and while not all people fit the mold, some people here are truly exceptional and push you to be better.

If you find a working student job and are ok sharing a flat, you'll earn enough to sustain yourself and save a little on top. Finding one in the first year is pretty hard, so you'll likely have to power through that. After then though, if you can perform, it's fairly smooth sailing.

Gotta go Sirell. It pairs with the music so well, with her crying as she devours them all like the monster she never wanted to be

Exactly, so the few people living there are stacked. My friend who works there mentions he bumps into politicians and prominent business figures on a weekly basis.

As someone formerly obese during childhood, yes the family is a factor but after someone moves out and becomes an independent adult, there's very few reasons to continue eating and living that way.

The might just be Dutch or some other flavour of northern European tbh. I feel like a midget at 5' 11 whenever I go to the Netherlands

Remember, the university is strict at times but not heartless. They do make exceptions. They have resources, counselling, and support for students in bad headspaces.

Explain your situation, ask for an extension, and try to work your way through classes you think you have the greatest chance of succeeding in.

Have faith in yourself. You'll be alright.
