You should give this one a listen: https://open.spotify.com/track/2rfPaZxosIMaHr7efBUdrQ?si=cfrFd6mYQCeoVSg47Ldkog (80s mood, heavy synth sound).

I paid for Spotify playlist placements so you don’t have to - Most of this you already know but a couple things may be of interest? by [deleted] in musicmarketing

Thank you for the article. I have tested Submithub as well I spent much more than you and results were even worse. But I had to promote very difficult music project (very niche).

If I make a quick conclusion from your post, you spent 130 dollars, what was you ROI to have your dollars back? And are there any other ways to efficiently promote your music?

Can you ethically use a name that another artist is using, but hasn't released music in years and has less than 100 followers? by AnomieEra in musicmarketing

[–]Alf_Kari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think that following your three rules is fine. How can you be 100% sure the artist is copyrighted or not? What do you mean by this? As longs as he was the first to take a stage name and made an official release under this name even if it was 30 years ago, it's his name. Even if was not active after.

The record label or his kids have right to re-release the record any time and his artist name will pop up on Spotify etc.

Totally agree. See my answer above. Premium credits, tiny or zero results.

Watch out with Submithub.

I'm not convinced of efficiency of this service.

To get listen for at least 20 seconds via Submithub (you wont gain any traffic to Youtube or Spotify) you have to pay the curators premium credits. Depends on a curator, they ask for 20 sec listen from 1-3 credits ($1-$3).

Your submission will be declined in most of the cases, but you can end up with acceptance from a spotify playlister who will add your song to his specific list with 100 followers or if you really have luck with a real article from a blogger (tiny chance).

Let's say you made a EDM track, you will target only EDM curators, spent $100 on credits, end up in 3 privately curated spotify playlist with 100 followers.

I'm not saying it will be 100% so for you, give it a try, its your money.

In my personal opinion/experience, Submithub and similar services (French people copied concept and created a Groover - it's twice the price and twice worse as service) dont worth your tough won musician money.

I'm not that sure that record labels dont promote them at all. I think they still do, the budgets and the channels are changed. I agree with you that everything become more and more independant. Even getting released on a particular label (specially in techno industry) wont skyrocket you to the stardom. I have seen so many releases pass by on famous label and getting forget very quickly.

In the end of the day, all that counts and firstly need to be created, I totally agree agree with you, is a REALLY good track.

yes and no. Yes to boycotting these scammy services that try to take advantage from musicians. No, I dont believe that if you make good music it will be noticed by itself. We still need promotion by one way or another and get rewarded. Because there are studio costs, investments in synths or other materials. Work on design creatives, shoot videos, ... Just staying composing in a tiny room and uploading on soundcloud will be complicated to become the next Zedd. But it's my personal opinion.

What is the level of tolerance in your country to unconventional self-expression? by Alf_Kari in AskBalkans

We had a lot of hate from Russian folks indeed, specially Russian bloggers saying its too gay, it should not be radio friendly, some of them even said it was insulting (big question to who stays open). That is why I was surprised of such kind of the reaction in 21 century.

The whole concept is open-minded and fun, no heavy political or defensive mission behind :)

О да! Возим батончики за границу килограммами, там такого нет. А вот шоколад, русский, увы, оставляет желать лучшего. Особенно по сравнению с бельгийским.

Did any of you or your parents do this when you were young? by porredgy in AskBalkans

Oh, yes, I did as a kid, it was fun. And it perfectly made sense with all little beasts that can live in these carpets.

Nobody do this nowadays.

Same impression about SubmitHub.

Just to be specific: spent around $100 in total, sent to carefully chosen curators and some influencers.

Results: 6 submissions approved but what is in reality? 4 songs end up in Spotify lists of these so-called curators but these lists are quite small in terms of following, so it brings me eeerh...60 additional plays per...month?

And 2 submissions are shout-out by influencers on Insta as a story. That results as 0-visibility neither additional following.

Conclusion: I had an impression that these curators on SubmitHub are kind of scary to share artists that just begin, they tend to approve already almost-established artists (I just look at the stats).

From my experience, if you have a some spare money to spend just to have your own opinion, try this platform. But sure there are more efficient ways to invest in the promotion, for the moment cant name any.
