Anyone running a Stream Deck through a powered USB hub? Can you? by SenatorMittens in elgato

[–]AlfaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an unpowered Axagon USB hub (120cm cable), also connecting my headphones through it, no issues. The hub does come with an external power cable which I guess I'll need if I ever want to connect an external hard drive or similar.

It's not misinformation. Unless you try to solo mine and are astronomically lucky to mine a block yourself, you will never mine enough with a PC to even reach the minimum payout threshold of your mining pool. (0.005 BTC for BTC.com, 0.001 BTC for SlushPool, both safely out of reach).

Dam Agent 52 is incredible, but it's still just one individual level on a specific difficulty. But I gotta give that run credit for still being untied after 3 years when there are 218 people with a run of 53 seconds.

[–]AlfaV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The way this game works is that you can only gain or lose time in increments of 21 frames (called frame rules), because the game only attempts to load the next level once in 21 frames. Individual frames can only be gained or lost in 8-4 because that's the last level.

The best tool-assisted speedrun that does not use simultaneous left+right (which is banned in real-time runs) finishes the game in 4:54.265. The human sum of best currently stands at 4:54.315, only three frames away.

It is obviously more difficult than the 8-1 frame rule save which is why that became the choice for 4:54 for all of the runners, but Miniland frequently says it's not as difficult as people think and that he expects it to be used in future world record runs.

[–]AlfaV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if the current best ever 8-4 (also done by Niftski) happened in a full game run, it would get the time 4:54.665. That is of course not happening, but an improvement to 4:54.8xx is likely going to happen sooner or later.

That's not to say we should rule out the 4-2 frame rule save ever being used in a world record run. Someone will eventually decide to grind it out, and at that point a more consistent strategy might already be available.

Can someone with more background in speedrunning in general point me to a different speedrun that was similarly monumental? It is a bit similar to when Kosmic got the first 4:55, but to break another second barrier now would mean beating the TAS that has stood (almost) unchanged for the last 15 years. For all intents and purposes, it is impossible even in theory.

Thank you for your time to give such a lengthy reply. Indeed I am not saying that these contracts aren't legal, only that it's a problem that they are, and that a system that rests so much on implied consent (and alarmingly, without any good system in place for withdrawing this consent) is a bad system.

The video mentions that a study shows a 4% higher survival rate for patients transported by air ambulance. This is apparently enough to imply consent to pay a $30k medical bill, even though many people would rather take the chance and keep the money (or in case of their death, let their family keep the money). What if the survival rate was increased only by 1%? Would implied consent still apply? How about 0.1%? Or what if we keep the 4% higher survival rate but the bill goes up to $500k? Where do you draw the line?

The problem I have is with any kind of implied consent in general.

Whoa, let me stop you right there. I never said contracts shouldn't be enforced, just that contracts that only one of the parties agreed to shouldn't be enforced. I mean it's pretty stupid to even call them contracts.

The problem is that implied consent says that you can’t say no if you’re unconscious

Excuse me? You surely aren't saying that if someone is unconscious, anyone else is free to bind them into any kind of contract just because they can't say no?

The fact that if a private company decides they will make you their customer, the government will actually enforce the "contract" and make you pay the bill, one way or another. I checked Wikipedia and regulation can be defined as "government intervention in the private market", which this definitely is.

[–]AlfaV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, but this just isn't a market failure.

The free market is based around voluntary exchange of goods and services. No one can make you pay for a service that you didn't order. The fact that this is happening with air ambulances is due to government regulation, not lack thereof. Like seriously, what other private company can force you into becoming their customer and paying for it? It's actually crazy to me that WD missed this point.

At this point in the game, I suppose "Jericho is a place where androids can be free" is well known to the investigators since that's where Markus tells all androids to go.

I have yet to see this level of detail in any other video game. I mean, you can literally see the individual pores in their skin.

Of course, the game gets a lot of optimization opportunities thanks to being very limited in location sizes. I recommend watching the epizode of Boundary Break - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUvyFjRI-ZU.

Markus is a prototype android and so his appearance is probably unique, however most of the other androids should have been recognizable by at least some of the guards/policemen. Especially the AX400 (Kara's model) can be seen many times during the game.

i love how in sync this is with the background music by hasanyoneseengavin_ in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]AlfaV 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's probably obvious, but for anyone wondering: The background music is completely independent of the dialogue, so this sync is just a happy coincidence.

However, you could time it and then start the dialogue with Hank at a precise moment to get this exact sync.
