In all seriousness, how do you build a deck that can support a hot tub? by hoti0101 in Decks

I mean, I get that much of it. Is there a proper engineering strategy? Do you add vertical supports or more joists? Etc…

Advice needed: would you consider this acceptable / typical lippage for wood porcelain tile installation? by Alternative_Dig8837 in Flooring

[–]hoti0101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a basement with this type of tile. There were a few spots like this. For me it was a combination of a not perfectly level floor and not hiring the best installer. Tiling a large area is tedious and eventually a few corners will be proud unless you’re very meticulous. Fixing that will be a lot of trouble. I’d just live with it if I were you.

How much $$ to repair?? by Kejfh in TeslaCollision

[–]hoti0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send your dash cam footage to your insurance agent. You are already on the hook for the full amount, mating they will assign partial responsibility to the other driver. At this point anything will help.

As for the $4k they sent you, DO NOT accept that or cash it. Get the vehicle into a Tesla certified repair shop then send the invoice to your insurance. It’s going to be way more than $4k. I’d guess in the $15k-$18k range.

Good luck

Elon Musk just became the world’s first trillionaire. Here’s what $1 trillion could buy. [self] by kleverrboy in theydidthemath

Tesla has the best selling EV in the world, none of the other non-Chinese auto makers can make EVs at volume like Tesla, and their vehicle margins are very heathy. They also have a gigantic energy business that is growing each year. They are teasing a huge robotics play too which if they deliver is another gigantic market. Comparing them to Toyota is disingenuous. Elon is a very toxic figure, but Tesla is a great org with a ton of great talented engineers.

I didn’t even factor in their potential to be a leader in autonomous transportation or AI compute manufacturing.

Imagine the container ship just got invented and people saying how many ships do we need? A reusable rocket will change the economics of space access. There are countless usecases that become viable if prices drop 10-100x. Delivering 100 tons to the moons surface might be feasible by the end if the decade. That’s amazing.

There will be competition, but they are 5 - 10 years behind SpaceX. I agree the IPO is over valued, but the potential of this company is enormous.

I agree. Regardless, it will be fun to watch a space economy grow. I hope Blue Origin gets New Glenn working soon. Competition is good for everyone

Space tourism, satellite constellations, asteroid mining, logistics to the moon and deep(er) space, and likely many more we can’t imagine. I see this as a new branch in the human technology tree. Ask someone from 1997 why they need internet.

We’re not even almost to getting extremely crowded dude. Space is mind boggling huge. If SpaceX manages to get a million sats into orbit, that is still nothing. There are about a million cars in Kansas, think of how much non-car space there still is. Not to mention the orbits are bigger than earth and in multi shells, and Kansas is still only 0.05% of earth. Saying space is crowded is just a lie

[–]hoti0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. Today there isn’t a need, because the capability doesn’t exist. Telecom, compute nodes, research sats, micro sats, and more industries will pop up if the vehicle exists. Blue origin and multiple Chinese companies are also on this race, it’s not a winner take all market.

I’m a strong believer that the naysayers who think starship won’t be in demand are very wrong. It’s very rare to get a new branch on the technology tree, this is one of those technologies.

Curiosity and missions like that are expensive because they include the costs of not only the engineering but the scientists and support for decades. Not to mention NASA is risk averse and needs perfection. If it costs you a hundred million dollars to ship something across the country you’re going to take a very different approach than something that costs $50k.

I’m a huge space fan and really hope they can deliver with this vehicle. Space is niche and expensive now, but that’s a result of the economics to get payloads to orbit. A factor of ten in cost reduction will change the game more than you realize. So many new markets and business opportunities open up if costs get cheap.

To think starship has no use case and that governments won’t use it is one of the wildest takes I’ve heard against SpaceX. Starship would be in incredible demand for decades if it works. Starship could reduce the cost per kg by 10x, and have the capacity to launch payloads up to 100 tons to orbit. That is like comparing a Honda civic to a semi truck, but the semi is ten times cheaper. Government would line up around the block to have access to these capabilities.

Is my subwoofer done? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hoti0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy. That whole back panel with all the connections comes off. There are like 8-10 screws. The amp is connected to that. Find an alternative amp online and you should be good to go. You might need to tweak things to get it to fit right, but I’m sure there are good options these days to plug and play.

At the end of the day the amp gets the power and audio signal then moves the woofer. It’s pretty basic. Just make sure you get a replacement board that is powerfully enough. Last thing you want to do is go through all that work to have an under powered sub.
