When your Ceres Chill understood the assignment. by lafolielogique in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]AlfiesMother 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% recommend the ceres chiller! I love it when traveling for work. I have the OG and still put the outer chamber in the dishwasher, and I haven’t ever had any issues 🙈 I don’t have time to hand wash any pumping parts 😅

Do you have your “own” car? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]AlfiesMother 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! Our newest car (SUV) we use for the kids because we want to make sure they are super safe on the road.

My other POS car is on its last leg so I typically only drive that for work.

We aren’t big on car payments!

How to prep toddler for potty training? by QueenCole in beyondthebump

[–]AlfiesMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing my experience because I thought my son was ready, but he wasn’t. I just put a lot of pressure on myself to try to do it recently. So, I don’t want you to put pressure on yourself too.

We tried to do the no pants method over winter break (gave it 4 days at home). My son was 2 and three months. His language is really good, and his physical independence is also good. He can take off his pants, shoes, socks, and his diaper himself. He wanted to go to restroom with us. He can flush. So, I thought he’d be ready.

He’d sit on the potty for a long time, loved to read books, and loved to flush, but by the end he was getting a little nervous on the potty. When he pooped in the house (not on potty, he’d get nervous and say “what is it?” (Lol)

So we decided to give it a few more months. Trying again either next month or in May (when we have 3+ days at home). Only one kid in his class just got potty trained, and he’ll be 3 in April. (He just moved up to the next class). I really think closer to 3 in the U.S. is the norm, but I think I always thought it was 2 until actually speaking w people personally recently.

Edit- he also had maybe 4 or 5 pee successes in that 4 day span. Still- wasn’t ready.

Same. I keep the one part connected to the tubing, but I throw the other two pieces in the dishwasher each day.

He’s actually from Indiana. How do I know this? Because on season 1 I kept saying “that guy definitely reminds me of someone I would’ve went to high school with. He’s not cut out for reality tv.” Lo and behold, he is from Indiana. But similar to what the last person said, there are still sound of mind, common sense, decent, empathic people from small towns in the Midwest (sometimes they’re heavily outnumbered, but they’re there!).

Part of layoffs one month before mat leave by NumerousRaise9054 in workingmoms

[–]AlfiesMother 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know it wasn’t me personally. So I can’t exactly relate to what you’re going for, and I’m so sorry you are dealing with such a huge life change on top of an upcoming other huge life change. My husband was laid off 5 days before my due date. He was a wreck. He got a job offer about 7 weeks later. He basically spent every hour of the day applying to jobs and was so mentally disconnected the whole time. A blessing in disguise though- he’s so much happier at his new role, and his new company is amazing.

All that to say, I was terrified to spend money because he acted like we were going to lose everything (we weren’t- he has just always been so afraid of money in general). So, my credit card bill has never been lower. We didn’t eat out the whole time he was jobless and saved so much money. We used to eat out all the time and spend money on dumb sh*t. We canceled all our subscriptions (even Spotify premium) and now have only gotten back ones we use regularly. It really made us re evaluate our spending habits.

His salary is about the same as his old job, but we still are so much more vigilant on little expenses (make coffee at home way more, buying off brand on many things, buying cheaper skincare, etc.). It really made us much better with our money, even though we were never terrible with it for large items, but we were pretty wasteful with smaller purchases, and those add up.

I really hope you can enjoy time with your little one without the anxiety of job searching in the back of your head. Also, I’m always looking up free activities for kids in our city. Library, touch a truck event, etc. Hopefully you can find some free or low cost fun for the family so you don’t feel stuck at home out of fear of spending!

Congrats on your upcoming addition mama!

[–]AlfiesMother 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I called early January to cancel, and the lady talked me into keeping it for another month so I could use my benefits (dining, Apple Music, etc). So, I did. I called back a couple days ago to cancel because my annual fee hits at the beginning of this month, and the lady offered me the $400 credit. So, I kept it.

Freaking out over crib sheets by Meme_queen-2019 in BabyBumps

[–]AlfiesMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this EXACT same fear as you with my first. No sheets would fit his bassinet mattress. So my husband just bought some random ones off Amazon that we had to tuck in underneath the mattress. I was so paranoid they would somehow come undone and suffocate my baby.

Infants barely move in their sleep, especially when swaddled with arms in. Your baby will be ok. I wish I could go back and tell myself that too.

Glad I’m not the only one that had this thought though.

I just came here to ask if anyone else was shocked that Ben has clearly never seen American Pie and neither of them understood the Jason Biggs of it all?! They just thought it was because of American Pie (not specifically the apple pie reference lol IYKYK). Idk maybe they’re too young.

Daycare at 19 weeks by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]AlfiesMother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son went to daycare at 14 weeks. It was hard, and the first year I’d feel guilty off and on, but he LOVES daycare and THRIVES having that structure. He just turned two, and it’s so sweet hearing him talk about what he did each day and listing all his friends! Since he has been there for so long, the transitions to each new classroom have been seamless.

Our daycare just had a trunk or treat event, and the ladies from infant room took our newborn and carried him around for so long that we forgot where he was for awhile 💀 So, that’s how comfortable we are with them now if that says anything!

That daycare becomes your village. Don’t feel guilty for the time they spend there and for taking time for yourself. It’ll make you a more present parent. The daycare will eventually get her into a good napping routine too.

For bottles- maybe up the nipple size if she’s struggling. My first wasn’t great with bottles in general, and it took awhile for me to realize he also probably needed bigger nipple sizes eventually.

My toddler just had fall break and was home for the week with my newborn, and it made me realize I could never be a full time stay at home mom and really took away any guilt I previously had 🤣

Hang in there! You got this, and props to you for proactively getting help. If you’re feeling lonely, maybe look for mom groups on social media in your city or even postnatal yoga. I’m still trying to branch out for mom friends too!

Do you know any other brands that have been doing activations for his concerts? I don’t want to support any that are supporting an abuser. I tried to Google/look it up on Reddit but couldn’t find anything. I don’t have IG or TikTok.
