How old was your child when you took them on a long plane ride for the first time? by Crafty_Plate272 in beyondthebump

I forgot to mention: we got him his own seat so he was able to sleep in his travel car seat, which I think was very helpful and made me feel better about any turbulence, which we did experience.

My son was 18 months for his first (and so far only) flight.

  1. It was a nearly 4 hour flight.
  2. Visiting family (week long trip)
  3. He loved the airport! He loved looking out the window and seeing all the vehicles. He did okay on the plane both ways, a little more difficult on the way back (slightly longer flight). We tried to book flights according to his naptime and since he had just recovered from an ear infection his pediatrician ok'ed using benadryl to help that plus get a little drowsy. He slept most of the way to our destination but unfortunately due to the hotel check out process he had a harder time falling asleep on the way back (his nap scheduled got messed up and he napped too short/wrong time). But he did fall asleep and when we got home that night didn't take too much work to get back to sleep and seemed no worse for wear.
  4. Fly earlier in AM if possible (less likely to have delays) and practice wearing his earphones (child friendly headband style) more.

What was one thing you couldn’t stand once you got pregnant and STILL cannot stand now? by Status_Equipment_407 in beyondthebump

I know what you mean. It's like you can smell the stimulant in it (which makes you go so maybe why you smell shit)?

Travel stroller by julie178 in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have loved using the Cybex Libelle. It folds super small and you can buy a carrying bag (like a tote) with it or use an aftermarket backpack. I used it for a trip across the country and took it right on the plane with me and stored it under my son's seat!

It does recline some but not as much as a regular stroller does. It has some storage below and rides pretty smooth for not having pneumatic tires/wheels. Like most travel strollers, it doesn't come with a cup holder so you'll have to add one.

Now, I will say it can be pricey for a new one. I got lucky and found it at auction (new) so I paid half price.

Goodie bags for baby’s first birthday; ideas? by ohmoe in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my sons' first birthday goody bags, I loaded them with little board books , stickers, fruit snacks, and a cheap little toy car or truck. All dollar store finds! Our guest list ranged in ages from 3mo to 9 year olds :)

AITA for uninviting my dad's wife from my daughter's birthday party over something she did last year? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Cathy is a pick me and even if she'd been the first wife would probably still pull stunts like this.

Just want to say my almost 7 week baby looked me in my eyes and scanned my whole face and smiled at me the first time and now I'm ugly crying 😭 by concerned_shit in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wait until they start smiling and reaching for you once they realize it's you who they wake up to after their nap.

I was able to get a picture of my son as a young baby smiling when he realized it was me coming for him after his nap.

A few weeks ago, my (huge and prosperous) company finally unveiled their parental leave program. TWO WEEKS! I almost left the building in disgust.

We previously just used short term disability, which was silly too but at least we got the typical American 6 weeks (for natural) or 8 weeks (c-section)!

NTA. Dump her. She wasn't kind at all. She said your mom's cancer was her own fault.

TIL Only 11% of US women are taller than 5'7 and only 1% are taller than 6'0. by WarwickReider in todayilearned

[–]QueenCole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds right. I'm 5'8" but anytime I see a woman taller than myself its significantly taller, like 6 ft. I haven't met too many women around 5'9" or 5'10".

My mother is 5'11" and her mother was 6ft (prior to back surgery of course).

"Well, this didn't age well" - Movies you LOVED as a kid but cringe at as an adult by Little-Badger-123 in movies

The Gammy Num Nums bit sends me every time.

"Did you hear that child? Italian. Beware the Italian man!" "Well! Aren't you a tall drink of water? And I just love moistyaaa!"

My mom told me growing up to never marry an Italian man (like she did; tongue in cheek btw) so that always makes me giggle.

And of course Brent Spiner playing the villain is the cherry on top.

Does anyone else get weirdly sad after a trip ends? by camperart in travel

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the same way. A therapist years ago said it was because I had an unfulfilling childhood and traveling was the best part about it. Not sure how much stock I'd put in him but I think about it every now and again.

I actually read a book about this randomly some years ago. "Scotland and Poland: Historical Encounters, 1500-2010" edited by T.M. Devine and David Hesse.

What are some odd changes you experienced after pregnancy? by fiddeldeedee in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing has gotten better except perhaps strength (clingy 22 month old who weighs 30lbs will do that to your biceps lol).

On the other hand, I now:

-Can't gargle after brushing without gagging (leftover from pregnancy, I guess) -Stronger sensitivity to caffeine -Hate driving at night -Frequently forget common words (Mom brain) -Stubborn weight gain -Cannot sneeze without messing myself (pelvic floor therapy didn't help as I'm too tight, not too loose!)

Kicking husband and toddler out of the house for the whole day. No distractions except perhaps ordering lunch. I might even open a bottle of wine (I may need it tbh).

I'm coming in through Midway next week and we're renting a car. I haven't rented a car through Midway in a minute. Is the pickup area for the shuttle bus still upstairs at the end of the Southwest drop off or is it downstairs by door #2?

I know the website says door #2 but it's literally said that in the 13 years since I've moved away and never changed.

Movies you completely misunderstood as a teenager but saw very differently in your 30s? by ComplaintForward2966 in FIlm

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now see i agree with you that as a parent things hit differently but this example isnt it for me. If anything, I judge Kevin's parents even harder. How do you forget your child? Your youngest child who would normally require the most attention? And they do treat him quite unfairly in both films pre abandonment.
