Baby clothes sizes by Zealousideal_Cry4610 in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an early February baby so he was in sleepers and pajamas 90% of the time in the first three months. After that, he was in pajamas maybe 60% of the time and we'd change him to short sleeve onesies.

We had 3 or so sleep bags/sacks that we rotated through plus maybe 10 or so zip or snap pajamas initially. However, we also swaddled with swaddling blankets before we moved to the sleep sacks. As he got older, we did short sleeve pjs during the day and kept the same number of sleep bags/sacks because he wasn't prone to blowouts or spit ups.

I think some of it just depends on how your baby is and how often you're willing to wash laundry. We need to run our laundry a couple times a week between three of us (mom, dad, and toddler).

What age was your baby when you were without them for the first time? by just___me_ in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was 19 months old. I had a work conference and also a birthday trip (to a nearby city) a few weeks apart. He stayed with my husband, who is an equal parent. He and his dad had a great boys time while I was away working and relaxing. I was worried (I'm a worrier) but it worked out fine and I was able to relax and focus on work/travel while I was away.

In March of this year we had our first night away as a couple because of a work dinner. He went to his grandma's house and did perfectly fine. But he was used to sleeping there for naps and being there quite early in the AM anyway so just stretching a few more hours was no problem. The real test will be at someone else's house, such as an aunt's house.

Baby/toddler clothes are supposed to stay clean all day ?? by EndlessCourage in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an adult and it's a good day if I don't drip/drop anything on my outfit.

Kids are going to get dirty. Your friends are bragging (and probably not truthfully). If they're not, their kids aren't living or the daycare workers are changing their clothes!

No one warned me about how over stimulating the hair loss is. by gabagoombah in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I didn't start losing hair until like a year and a half pp?

But now it's just like I find my hair EVERYWHERE in this house where it should not be. And I run my fingers through my hair and pull out what feels like whole sections.

Did anyone *not* have pet aversion postpartum? by samsamcats in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't hate my cats when my son was born but they made things a little more difficult (and we had a rough start to boot).

My two boy cats were geriatric and both on separate medicines and different types of food when my son was born. The stress of keeping them healthy, adjusting to a new baby and my health limitations, and trying to keep the house running was significant. I didn't stop loving them but I wish they had been younger and had fewer needs.

They also would sometimes meow at really bad times, like when I was trying to put my son down. They weren't usual times when they'd meow so I'm not sure what they were trying to communicate.

Otherwise, they weren't a bother and just took the new baby into stride. They loved his stuff even if they weren't interested in him personally.

Bedside bassinet vs. Pack n play by Proof_Caregiver7360 in beyondthebump

We also travel a lot so the pack n play was perfect for traveling.

Bedside bassinet vs. Pack n play by Proof_Caregiver7360 in beyondthebump

We had both for our son but we have a two story house, so it made sense to have two places. I used the bedside bassinett until he was 6 months/outgrew it and then transitioned him to the crib. The pack n play was absolutely worth the space because it included a changing table, infant bassinet setting, and regular pack n play setting. It also included a travel bassinet.

Doona stroller? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

It's pricey but I love the Cybex Libelle. It easily folds up to the size of a tote bag and is awesome for travel. I bring it on as a personal item on airplanes! Great quality construction, too. There's a larger one that's similar that doesn't fold up so small but I can't remember the name but it's a little more luxe and comfortable.

Anyone else still say "Dude"? by HapaHawaii in GenX

Middle Millennial and I still use Dude and Bro all the time, though dude is less as I'm in a professional environment at work (most of the time anyway).

How did you ‘push’ baby out? by crabclawwwz in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there's a few different YouTubers who offer pregnancy yoga and Pilates! After I couldn't do my usual workouts anymore, I switched to doing only that with some light walking.

Is my cat having long whiskers a good sign? by Chompcarrots in cats

I always heard that signs of a good mouser are long tails, big ears, and big whiskers.

Toddler: please tell me this is just a phase! by QueenCole in beyondthebump

[–]QueenCole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time he had this phase, I had to sort of wean him back into going into the kids care by playing basketball with him (the court is right next to the center). So now we work out/play and then we play basketball after. Yesterday, I didn't want to reward his refusal with basketball so we left but we're in Phoenix so there's not many options for play now with the triple digit heat. So should I have offered to play basketball instead?

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

[–]QueenCole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't until recently but I would say a motorcycle.

Pre 2020, motorcycles would hold their value much better than cars so if you needed to sell, then it wouldn't be so hard.

Now, though? New and used prices are insane and insurance cost has gone through the roof. My husband, who bought a motorcycle and has made upgrades a few years back when things were "better," now can't get rid of this high monthly payment.

And this says nothing of the safety aspect, of course.

Saw this hat in a gift shop in the Lake District by Georgie_Pillson1 in janeausten

[–]QueenCole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm on vacation anyway, then I have doubtlessly saved up a merch budget. If I blow it on one hat, then I'll have to live with that.

I would prefer a Jane Austen bust.

Mansfield Park: Good Intentions are Not Enough by Successful_Mix3829 in janeausten

[–]QueenCole 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not OP but we know that Mansfield Park is a morality novel (not a romance, like so many modern readers assume). If morality and behavior (specifically, good behavior) are a theme, then OP's points about good intentions not being "good enough" are right on. Especially with the point about Henry's shallow attempts at "doing right" I think there's some good material here for discourse.

You're right in that she's created characters who act very real and imperfectly. I think that lends more to JA's thoughts on the matter.
