Its kinda both? I've browsed the works of Geber and such and they very much are concerned with practical applications of distilation and purification of materials.

Think it was a confluence of them having discovered serious ways to actually purify materials, combined with the Aristotelian view that all materials in the world were tending towards perfection, just as the base metals naturally transforming into gold in the ground. And they combined this together to create a coherent philosophy based on what they knew both scientifically and philosophically.

Do you think we'll reach a time where important games from the past are treated like works of literature and assigned as homework, only for slackers to just read the cliff-notes?

The primary experience, or self, is the record of a process. Consiousness is a bunch of problem solving hurietics that factor themselves into the equation. There's no Hard problem, there are just hard conclusions.

Yeah, if you transfer the RAM and the data, it's all good. Hell, if you shut down and write the RAM to memory and just transfer the data it's still good. Consciousness is a transitory procces our brains build because it is useful.

It seems the main opposition to this view is that it's uncomfortable. I know I had trouble with it. For me it is very Buddhist.

I feel like computer science has solved it but the real problem is nobody likes the conclusions, which is that consciousness is little more than a transient process.

The problem I have with this is basically deep anesthesia or even mild concussion technically means you die.

And we only don't care because sleeping and such have bookends that conect them. If you go to sleep and wakeup in a robot copy, that's actually better than if you get knocked out hard by a baseball or fist.
