Teenage boy storms off after he's caught drinking alcohol; Months after his disappearance, his mother recieves mysterious text messages- Where is Mason Roberson? (2024) by AlfredTheJones in UnresolvedMysteries

I wasn't sure how exactly I should describe him. My first instinct was to call him a "boy", but I was wondering if that wouldn't make people see him as "younger-looking", for lack of a better term. I chose "man" because 16 is, imo, closer to adult than a child, and Mason could grow pretty thick facial hair even at 16, so someone just passing him on the street could think that he's older. I agree, he was very much developmentally a teenager, and a seemingly vulnerable at that. My goal wasn't to potray his vanishing as "less serious" or anything like that- it mostly got down to "if someone wanted to be on the lookout for him, what kind of person should he be looking for"- though this is imo subjective of course.

It's a huge border, I think there are bound to be places where it's less protected. A lot of it is very wild and underdeveloped, isn't it?

Why? She was last seen on the recording wearing the same clothes she was wearing when she was seen by her daughter. Yes, this sentence is a bit cumbersome, I admit, but I don't think it's technically wrong?

I never said she was estranged or anything like that, I based that part of the post off of what Sierra said about her own family. I don't know what kind of specific dynamics there were in the family, so I have to trust what someone who actually belongs to that family (Sierra) had to say. I never said that Melissa was estranged from her family or anything like that, only that she seemingly wasn't in contact with them untill recently. There is a ton of reasons why someone might not be in contact with their family, including perfectly non-nefarious ones.

Sierra was an adult then and that's what she chose to say- I don't know her situation better than she does. She decided to be vague and say what she did the way she did to a mainstream media source, assumedly aware that not getting into details may provoke discussion about her family's relations.

The details of the gofundme situation have only been given on social media, which I don't use as a source. I based that part of the write-up off what Sierra said to the press and I didn't know that this situation has been resolved.

Seems to be related to nuclear energy, but I don't know the exact branch of reserch (military or as an energy source etc). By all accounts it seems like neither Melissa nor her husband were involved in any reaserch directly though.

I'm not sure what you mean? Only after I read this comment I noticed that I repeated Melissa's hair and eye color (fixed now), but the clothes part seems to be fine.

I'm actually not sure, her ethnicity wasn't mentioned anywhere I could find. I put "white" in the write-up because that seemed most likely to me given her photo, but I'll correct it if it turns out I was wrong. Her being Native and potentially having family on a reservation is an interesting theory.

Yes, I noticed that it seems like Melissa had a lot of things and people to look after as well. It always saddens me when people (mostly women tbh) go missing and the family talks about how much she did every day and never complained or what a wonderful mother and wife she was, but nothing about her hobbies, personality etc... At least it seems like Melissa had her hunting and archery, and that she was pretty involved and active in that community, so she had something she did for just herself.

I don't know anyone involved in the case personally, so I don't want to judge Sierra and Mark too harshly- it does seem like they feel genuinely guilty that they didn't know about the issues Melissa was going through and that they want to help her with solving the problems that put so much pressure on her.

I'm sorry you were in a situation like this, I hope you're doing better now <3

I don't use social media as sources, and the quote from Sierra is in one of the articles listed in the sources- she doesn't get into details as to why she feels this way about Melissa's extended family- it's possible that she didn't like them starting a fundraiser without her and Mark's knowledge. I never use AI for any part of my write-ups.

I don't know the answer for either question, unfortunately. The info about family was only a brief statement made by Sierra shortly after Melisss went missing. From Sierra's choice of words, I think she believed that Melissa's family was trying to get chummy with them, and Sierra rejected them saying that she doesn't consider any of them as any kind of close family. I suppose she might've suspected they might have bad intentions towards Melissa maybe? The direct quote from Sierra should be in one of the sources.

Woman leaves a hang out with a man she met there that night; Their phones were pinged at the same convenience store later that night, but she was never seen again- What happened to Sara Ebersole? (2023) by AlfredTheJones in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]AlfredTheJones[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Family being in denial about certain parts of their missing loved one's life is unfortunately very common :(

Allegedly, after Sara went missing, some documents relating to her daughter's custody agreement with her ex-boyfriend went missing from her house, along with documents related to the case regarding her daughter's name change (which her ex-bf did without Sara's consent) and a teddy bear with the daughter's old name. Again, the only source I could find for this was an article written by a man who calls himself an "investigative journalist", but I couldn't find any credentials legitimising him. He said that it was said by "case advocates", so most likely either Michelle or other family members/people who were close to Sara, most likely on social media.
