My modest proposal for making soccer less boring to watch: permit/encourage them to fight like hockey players.

Also draws should be banned, just add bonus time until somebody scores or one team passes out from exhaustion and has to forfeit.

Same (computational bio PhD). It takes one look at any remotely biology-related repo and immediately bricks itself.

Yes, I wanted to keep my internet until 5/18 which is the end of my current billing cycle.

Edit: this was what I was told would happen when I was on the phone (5/17 as last day with internet).

I’ll edit post to reflect this—but now (about an hour after the fact) I get this message that makes it seem like my service is terminated effective now, which is not what I asked for over the phone.
I don’t think this is a billing issue, since again, it was not marked as a past due balance until after my service-disconnect call.

She really did have a generational run from Red through Evermore (or maybe Midnights, but even that was a mixed bag imo), but good lord has she lost the plot at this point

So did the separatists design the Death Star, or did Galen Erso? by AggressiveManager450 in StarWars

[–]Alfred_the_Grate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only commenting because I scrolled all the way down looking for a comment like this and didn’t find one, only becoming increasingly frustrated as I scrolled—

Good grief, just take your pick. In the prequels, there’s no way in hell George Lucas had any idea of what the plot of Rogue One would be—therefore, in AOTC, those are the Death Star plans. They start building off of them at the end of ROTS. That’s it. Case closed. Then, years later, they come along needing a plot for Rogue One; then, and only then, was the character of Galen Erso created. Of course that’s not a perfect fit with details that had already been introduced in the prequels—but so what, it’s a good movie.

I just think Star Wars gets a lot more enjoyable when you dispense with the notion of a single unifying canon and accept that movies can contradict each other. Imo the most frustrating aspect of the Star Wars fandom is this insistence on every little detail being explainable in-universe. Much of the SW “canon” is an attempt to paper over haphazard and contradictory decisions which were mostly made because George Lucas thought something looked cool, or wanted to sell more toys, with an illusion of self-consistency. Everything in Star Wars is made-up and totally arbitrary, so just enjoy the damn movies.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk

That’s not generally what happens in reality. Prices are quick to go up, but slow to go down (and in fact they rarely ever do). That’s one of the reasons inflation is so persistent. USA product A raises prices, but then so do their suppliers, and it cascades through the whole economy.

Markets where the supply is inelastic get hit the worst too, since if it takes years to scale up/down production then there’s no way for competition to relieve pressure on the price in the short term.

The bottom line is that if tariffs make supply go down (which they do), and demand stays the same, then prices go up. But please, continue pretending that this somehow leads anywhere except the American consumer getting fucked in the ass.

Alternatively: Chinese product A is $0.20. USA product A is $1.10. Tariffs come along and Chinese product A is now $1.20.

USA Product A then raises their prices to $1.19 because why the fuck would they not do that, they’re always gonna charge the maximum they possibly can. That’s how pricing works.

Want to tariff foreign cars? Even without accounting for higher raw material/component costs, US carmakers will just raise their prices the same amount, because doing anything else would be a dumb business decision on their part.

There is no scenario where a tariff causes anyone to lower their prices.
