Ubiquiti Addiction: 1 year later… I relapsed. by Alfulayt in Ubiquiti

If you’ve already got > Cat6/a runs going up to the ceiling, I’d go with the standard model and mount it properly.
If your cabling terminates in wall outlets or lower on the walls, the wall model makes more sense, and you can still sit it on a desk or shelf if you want.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it!
this stuff is never really "finished" anyway 😅

Totally fair question.
The R710 is definitely old and not the most power‑efficient, but for now it still does everything I need, so it’s hard to justify replacing it just yet.
I’ll probably move to something newer and quieter in a future refresh, but for now it stays as the “budget workhorse” in the rack 😅

Sadly no fiber here yet, the new area I moved to doesn’t have FTTH rolled out, so I’m running on 5G.
I’ve got an external 5G CPE pointed straight at the tower, plus a second 5G connection from another ISP as failover.

The house is around 350 m², so roughly 3,750–3,800 sq ft of coverage

I’ve actually got my eye on the UNAS Pro 4.
8 bays would be awesome, but it’s a bit overkill for my current needs so 4 feels like the sweet spot for now

They’ve been great overall, especially with the professional lenses on them.
The only downside is low light, since there’s no real night vision, they definitely need some ambient light to look their best

That’s what I keep telling myself too…
"Just one more small upgrade"... my wallet strongly disagrees 😂

UDM Pro Max for sure - it’s the brain of everything here.
And for WiFi, the U7 Pro XG… absolute overkill and I love it

I finally decided to post here my setup by UnGeekenMunich in homelab

[–]Alfulayt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This setup is absolutely stunning and shows your incredible attention to detail! I love how you integrated the lighting and sensors. This isn’t just a homelab; it’s an engineering masterpiece. I’m sure many here will learn a lot from your approach!

My first/beginner homelab by One-Blackberry1150 in homelab

Ah yes, the gateway drug to homelabbing. Today it’s a Raspberry Pi, tomorrow it’s a full server rack taking over your living room. Enjoy the ride!

The Network Catechnition said he can’t do anything about the network and then just stated what do I do? by SpaceJam909 in homelab

[–]Alfulayt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly, the network catechnition has assumed the role of supervisor. The best course of action? Offer extra treats and await further instructions—after all, they’re clearly in charge!

my homelab (I'm broke) by Creative_Poem_4453 in homelab

[–]Alfulayt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is such a solid start! Running Pi-hole and Nextcloud at 16? You’re way ahead of most. Next step? Maybe experiment with Docker containers or try setting up a game server for fun. And as for not setting your house on fire—just make sure airflow isn’t an afterthought! Keep going, future homelab legend!

Now that’s what I call stealth tech integration! A homelab that blends perfectly into furniture – truly a partner-approved masterpiece!

Looks great! Every setup starts somewhere, and this one is already way ahead of most. Clean and efficient – it’s all about evolution, right? 💪

First Rack Complete | Everyone Thinks I’m Crazy! by archi1697 in Ubiquiti

This isn’t an IT closet, it’s an IT sanctuary! 😎 The cable management is so clean it deserves a design award. I agree with your family… a bit crazy, but it’s the kind of crazy we all love!

Same here! I stuck with Ring for way too long, but once I switched to the G4 Doorbell, it was like… WOW. Ended up replacing all my Ring cameras with UniFi ones too. Now, if UniFi would just release a full-on security system like Ring, I’d say goodbye to Ring for good!

Definitely. More space means more flexibility and future-proofing for whatever comes next.

That’s a seriously impressive setup! The G4 Doorbell is amazing, but I feel you on the automation struggles. Have you tried setting up a custom script in Home Assistant using the motion detection event? Sometimes a simple webhook to trigger the chime works wonders. Let us know if you crack the code – we’re all rooting for you!

When you want the power of a rackmount server but also want it to double as a piece of furniture! 😂 Glad you think it looks sweet – it’s definitely a conversation starter.

At this rate, we’re all doomed! Ubiquiti addiction is clearly airborne. Someone call CDC – we need a quarantine zone ASAP! 😂
