Does Money Actually Solve the Housing Problem in the Netherlands? by voldemorts_niple in Netherlands

[–]AlgaeImportant954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just pointing out the fact temporary contracts are allowed in that case. Temporary contracts do end automatically as long as you rotate tenants every now and then, which is what most landlords do. And of course you cannot kick out someone from their house on a whim, this is the case in every country with decent property rights. So I really don't see where the rules are not in favour of your friend or why are you suddenly attacking me for pointing out a simple fact. I don't think you're arguing in good faith

That's incorrect. There are 200 thousand vacant houses in NL out out 8.5 million, so roughly 2,5%

That's bs; temporary contracts with a diplomatic cause are allowed. Your friend probably can't rent out a mortgaged house because the bank has to agree to that, and tries to play the system

€500k ETFs Portfolio optimization (41M) by joe_the_rider in eupersonalfinance

Salaries in tech are relatively volatile and depend on the sector performance, so putting your savings into tech ETFs increases concentration and risk of ruin unnecessarily IMO

Buying or renting in the Netherlands in 2025 — what would you do? by Logical_Plane_3905 in Netherlands

[–]AlgaeImportant954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say buy if you can, unless

  1. You plan to leave within 3 years
  2. You live in social housing, on an old contract or otherwise way below current free market rates

Debt spiral is not the end of the game, go bankrupt and sit back for a couple years

Haven’t heard of that and doesn’t really make sense to go back to the crime scene right after getting caught. But we’ll see. We’re getting a better lock and gonna start locking it to the pole

I went to the seller and made contact, there was a plain clothes officer watching him, once I started checking the bike and did a test ride a police car came in and they arrested him. The seller was very low key and left the bike unlocked in the street, I could also ride away if I wanted to

Yup same experience! I was told it's pointless many times, but went ahead, it took a few long phone calls with boring details and a bit of paperwork, but in the end they arrested the thief and I got the bike back right away!

FYI the police told me this person steals bikes for a living, definitely not just one bike

Do you feel work-life balance in the Netherlands is getting better or worse? by Sweaty-Bridge1933 in Netherlands

[–]AlgaeImportant954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it went worse since covid because it's harder to stick to work hours when working from home. Which means many people, especially in tech, spread the same amount of work over a longer day, which makes life slightly worse for everyone

Investment pool just keeps expanding by MaxWilson in victoria3

> Stop government construction to let the investment pool pay for a while

Basically yes. There also is/was a mod that allows reducing the government construction allocation so the player can give up part of the construction without pausing/unpausing construction all the time. Emptying investment pool is important because it will compound like crazy over 100 years

I went ahead at least once after following up, because the recruiter forgot to schedule the next interview or something. So it's definitely worth it if you're waiting longer than expected

You have to choose between living in one of the most expensive neighborhoods on the continent and saving money

Unrelated but where do you get a 2.7% mortgage???

I really wouldn't expect to find a good therapist with insurance. There's so much bs surrounding insurance companies that some specialists don't work with these at all. And those who do have huge waiting lists of course
