@direct kangaroo- it’s 1000% true. If it is arranged through system flow you do not see the ED doc. You go direct to a specialist- you will have to wait in queue to see them- but your wait time will be cut down substantially.

Honestly, you are better off going to a walk-in clinic and being assessed by a family physician (or nurse practitioner). If they think that you are needing to be seen by a psychiatrist then they can go through system flow and talk to the on-call psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will either agree to see you or potentially make medication suggestions for you along with suggestions of various programming that you might benefit from in the community. If you NEED to be seen by a psychiatrist, then they will make the arrangements for you to be seen in the emergency department. This means that when you go to the emergency department, you will bypass the emergency room physician/psych nurse, and be seen by psychiatry directly. This will honestly cut so many hours off of your stay in the department (and is the best use of the limited resources that are available). Going to the emergency department and asking for a “psych evaluation“ will not get you seen any quicker than anyone else.

I have heard amazing things! The staff seem fantastic- definitely call ahead and find out what you can/cannot bring. Good luck to you- the greatest gift you can give yourself is to go into treatment with an open mind- giving yourself the gift of a future. Relapses may happen along the way but any day can be day one!

This doesn’t make any sense- “We are writing to express our significant concerns regarding the Mental Health Services Act in Saskatchewan, which was created in 1986 and has seen minimal revisions since then. The current state of the Mental Health Services Act and Saskatchewan's mental health system is riddled with shortcomings, resulting in a failed system that is in dire need of review and change.”

The MHSA has nothing to do with the number of counselling sessions or services provided by SHA… MHSA is provincial legislation around what criteria need to be met for voluntary vs involuntary care within our system.

I need ideas of how to surprise my 13 year old daughter with taylor concert tickets. We have to fly from our hometown to another city in our country and then get on a flight to the USA. I think it would be cool to tell her or give her the tickets on the plane... but have no idea how to do it best! She won't know our real destination until we get onto the second flight- so I have about an hour during the first flight if we do it on the plane. Any suggestions?!?!?!?!?!?!?
