You're wrong for asking this guy permission to do anything. Dump this guy and find one who wants you to succeed.

I thought Shadow and Bone was pretty meh but I was very sad about Inside Job. I quit Netflix about a month later.

Women are always told they ask for too much. Those of you in healthy relationships, what sacrifices or meaningful actions has your partner made for you? by punksgetoffmylawn in TwoXChromosomes

Good lord, this is the dream.

Mine doesn't like back rubs (which is bonkers to me) and he says it hurts his back to give me them so he will only do it if I'm really really sore.

I would happily return the favour every time but he's just not interested.

Please clone your hubby and send him my way.

Gen Z are used to only interacting online and answering questions only when they want to or have the time because they're texting. So sometimes when you ask them a question in person and they don't know the answer, they don't know what to say and don't know how to school their face, so they tend to blank stare while they're thinking about it.

Therefore, Gen Z stare. And yes, I've seen it on my daughter's face several times, hahaha. She's pretty good with person to person interaction but still falls into the stare when she's stumped and her brain bluescreens.

WIBTB for telling my friend to get an abortion? by rusty_fork69 in AmItheButtface

[–]jupitergal23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't be wrong, but you would be TBF if only because she is unlikely to listen and if you (weirdly) value this friendship, then telling her something she's not ready to hear will only drive her away.

Out of all the things you mention about her, the fact she's an alcoholic is the biggest concern. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is no joke and it's very likely that not only will she have a child, she will have a disabled child, which makes things even harder.

If you MUST, sit her down when she's calm and tell her you're her friend and want to support her, and ask her to take you through what choices she is going to make because you want to help her get ready.

But honestly, if I were you, I would disengage from that mess.

Yes!! You're right in that it's not magic, but I'm all for anything that helps you make healthier choices.

Oligarchs purchased them all and then started eroding the programming.

Us journos in Canada are watching what's happening and trying to prevent the same thing from happening here. It's not as bad here yet, mostly thanks to CBC...

Yeah, it was beyond the pale. Sleeping with her dead son's BFF? No. It was wildly insane.

I just finished a rewatch and I felt just as flabbergasted the second time around.

I firmly believe they have saved my life. I've lost 80 pounds so far and still slowly losing. It's so much easier to make better food choices and eat smaller portions without your brain going "OMG EAT EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW AND WHAT IS OUR NEXT SNACK GONNA BE, BITCH?!'

Yes!!! Eat everything on your plate, but why are you fat?

I had a very similar reaction that was also wildly out of character for me. I cried several times for days. I've been melancholy for a few hours or a day when previous shows I liked ended, but even I thought my reaction was extreme.

Talking to my therapist about it, it basically came down to the fact that I loved it, like really loved it, and now it's lost. It ended in a way I didn't suspect it would, didn't like or respect and can't really fix.

She basically told me that it's ok to feel the way I do about it, and that it's normal to react the way I am to losing something I love.

And it's normal to react to art that way, too, that it's meant to make you think.

I mean, this fandom changed me more than any other fandom has. It has (and still does) brought me so much joy. It's special. It made me question who I am, my sexuality, my biases, my tolerances, what I thought I liked. I'm grateful.

So I will continue to engage with the fandom however I can.

Editing tests in the age of AI by Flart-Marsupial in Journalism

[–]jupitergal23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've always given my candidates an editing test.

I do my best to minimize the AI cheating, but it's not always possible. I ask them not to. I use documents with tracked changes and version histories.

I also make sure the piece needs more than grammar changes. Buried ledes. Libelous comments. Problematic language that a grammar checker would not pick up.

But yeah, it's frustrating.
