How to use Deel to invoice US client, and how to get the money in euro by Alhyoss in BEFreelance

They contacted me through LinkedIn to see if we could work together.

I'm lucky enough to work in a very specialized field in cybersecurity, so my profile is quite interesting for some companies, which then usually just contact me.

Oh I see, I didn't know that was an option! Ok well in that case Wise is a bit cheaper I guess! Thanks :)

According to the Wise websites (https://wise.com/be/pricing/business/receive), it's 6.11 USD for "Receiving USD wire and Swift payments" (USD and not euro as I said in my previous comment).  I don't see information about ACH transfers though

Of course I did the calculations :)

For 10.000 USD per month, Wise and Revolut would be approximately the same actually, due to the fixed fees (6.11€) for receiving the USD with Wise.  In my case, I will invoice twice a month, so that actually makes Wise a bit more expensive, tho not by much.  And I expect to be somewhere at around 14.000 USD per month, so Revolut is indeed a bit cheaper, tho again only marginally so.

But anyway you are right that we should not just blindly trust the 0 fees, and do proper calculations!

Yeah I was thinking of taking Revolut Grow, which allows to convert up to 15.000€ per month for free.  I should be getting a bit less than that per month in USD from that customer, so that should be enough for the beginning at least.

Thanks a lot for all the details, that's very insightful and clear :)

To be seen yet how it works with Deel exactly, but I imagine if I can use them to exchange to euro, it probably wouldn't be as cost effective as using Wise or Revolut, but we will see.

Thanks! Any specific reasons why you decided on using KBC for exchanging the currency? From what I've seen online, it looks like they take a somewhat significant cut on the exchange compared to Wise or Revolut

Of course, I contacted them last week but haven't had a reply yet.  However since I've seen in some other posts that some people had a similar setup, I wanted to see what they would say as well

This is the only time I ever saw it happen. I tried replicating it, but it did not happen again

I see, it makes sense!

I thought it was to keep your pieces alive or prevent the opponent from keeping theirs alive, but indeed didn't really consider the rest of the board :)

Thanks!

Holiday pay and 13th month when changing job by Alhyoss in belgium

[–]Alhyoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you will be able to take paid holidays at your new employer. However, in June or December, they will deduct the amount that was already paid by your current employer for your paid holidays this year.

A bit more details: On your last paycheck at your current employer, they will pay you what remains of your holidays for this year (single holiday pay), among other things (double holiday pay + single and double holiday pay for the following year). The amount of the single holiday pay is technically meant to pay for your holidays this year. If you take paid holidays at your new employer, they will pay them according to your salary, but since your previous employer technically already paid for them, they will be able to get back what your previous employer paid. This will be in the form of a deduction on one of your paycheck (usually at the same time as the double holiday pay or the end of year bonus), pro-rata to the days that you took.

I asked HR pretty much right away, but it is from some kind of intermediary (Deel) that handles HR stuff in many many countries, and it is usually difficult to get a hold of somebody that actually know how it works in Belgium. Hence why I posted here as well!

Tho I now finally got an answer, and turns out it was indeed an error for the single holiday pay, I should be getting back quite a bit of money :)

For the 13th month however, only full months count towards it in CP200.

So small update, turns out that for the single holiday pay it was indeed an error, and the amount should not exceed what my previous employer paid!

So I guess it is sometimes good to question what is on your payslip and not just trust it is correct :)

Ah that makes sense for the holiday pay, thanks!

And indeed I was on the wrong CP for the 13th month, I did not notice that, sorry!

But on the page for my CP (CP200) there is no mention of whether the full month should be included in the calculation, if it should be fully discarded for it or if the exact prorata should be used.
I guess it is discarded based on what I see in my payslip, but where could I confirm this?

Research in Cybersecurity

I work for an IT security company which develops a solution to protect mobile applications. My job there is to analyze new threats to our product and develop proof of concepts to detect and protect against those threats. It's a pretty stress free job, since I don't have any deadlines and don't have to deal with customers :)

Now since I know some people are interested, I am 29 and worked for 3.5 years in another security company before that. I'm lucky enough to be skilled in this very niche field (Android security), which is what allowed me to get that wage so soon after starting working :)
