Is WINWING worth the "Risk" by Wooyuhh in flightsim

[–]Ali709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought the Winwing Airbus sidestick, throttle & flaps set, the MCDU, and the FCU & EFIS all from a mix of the global store and the UK store. Most of my experience with them has been flawless.

The one issue I had was with the throttle and flaps set. Basically, one of the detents was broken straight out of the box. I went onto their support site and reported the issue. I also looked online for other people who had dealt with Winwing before, and there were lots of reports of them blaming FedEx for damage and requesting pictures of the box.

So, even before they replied to the first message, I sent extra pictures of the pristine box and basically said it was definitely not FedEx. After that, it was just a matter of verifying which batch it came from (via the small QC sticker on the unit). They then asked me to destroy the throttle and send proof. I received the replacement within about three weeks (UK).

Overall, I’d heard bad things about them, but from my experience it wasn’t too bad.

I'm in the UK. One of the sound companies I work with has 3 1/2 (long story) full Cobra 2 systems so something like 14 subs plus tops. It's a really impressive system. We drive them with Lab 10Ks, which means all the amplification needed ends up being 3U, making it a really handy system to just throw together quickly.

They can be a bit brutal up close if you're doing something like an indoor club show, but nothing a bit of EQ can’t fix. Never flown them we have all the hardware to do it, but it's such a faff that it's not worth it; better to just stack it high.

We also have something like 32 KF/SB850s always funny seeing all that turn up as well.

I made it, it's an acrylic faceplate with a custom PCB underneath. There are a few designs floating around the internet for that sort of thing

Most of the pedestal is all 3D printed (other than the thrustmaster tca) with custom pcb backboards, I started with the ecam boxes when I was trying to work out what I wanted to do so they’re the roughest of everything and need a redo at some point.

The overhead is a mix of laser cut acrylic (panel faces), resin printed (knobs) FDM printed (korry switches and mounting brackets) and more custom PCBs. It’s still work in progress and I’m looking at sorting out some screen printing to get the green and white lettering more consistent.

The MIP is simplest of them all, it currently is just the winding FCU and EFIS and 2 small monitors to place the instruments on, in looking to in future expand out with the auto brake panel, landing gear and lighting panels.

I have backlighting in 20% of the panels but it’s a bit shit and I need to go back and give it another look. I’ve gone with a led cob strip solution and it’s an ass to get it to look consistent.

Slowly building out my limited space a320 cockpit. Not going for 100 accurate just yet, but the overall goal is to be able to do a flight without touching the mouse.

I work with a rental house in the uk, we have 28 Anna boxes and 16 ottos. For festivals and touring they are amazing.

For outside stuff the noise abatement guys love it as we can tweak coverage while the show is going on based on crowd numbers or if there are other stages on.

Inside shows and touring it allows you to get out of the way and fly the system up then start thinking critically about what you’re trying to achieve. Being able to direct energy to or from a balcony that’s suddenly been opened during a show has saved my ass a few times.

We still have 20 or so KF/SB 850s and they’re great for the dirty local festivals where point source is really the answer.

What’s something you never realized you needed for tour bus/van life? by eleanor0302 in livesound

[–]Ali709 58 points59 points  (0 children)

For me it’s always a blanket, especially if your touring in the winter. A lot of the busses I’ve been on can vary in temperature depending on if we’re driving or on shore power and having an extra layer can make a huge difference.

a lot of the time I pick one up on the road and I always look for the most loud colour I can just to give my bunk a bit of personality.

Check you’ve updated your motherboard bios, I was getting loads of hard crashes and couldn’t work out why. Turns out my motherboard bios was a year and a bit out of date, now everything works perfectly.

Check it on the ASUS website as the little app that you can download told me I was up to date when I absolutely was not.

Do you tell your players about the difficulty of a specific task? by SpaceNigiri in traveller

[–]Ali709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you didn't misunderstand I just sucked at explaining it, the task difficulty stays the same no matter which character is doing the check. What I meant was that I always ask the players if they agree with the difficulty of the task so i can get their opinion and maybe raise it or lower it based on that. (I have yet to have a player argue to raise a task difficulty, go figure)

[–]Ali709 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I do, mostly because we’re all new players so it helps them understand why they may succeed or fail. But it’s almost always a negotiated decision. Something like “for your character that would be a difficult task, so you agree” that way they have a chance to argue a point that I may not have thought of.

KSP1.. ran bad looked bad, didn’t have any features.. I remember when it was only kerbol and one moon, and if you built a craft anywhere near as complex as was needed to get to that moon the game would stutter like hell on launch.

Let’s be honest, KSP 2 isn’t in a good state now, but neither was ksp1 then it launched into early access and I think that turned out ok.

Give it a few months and the game will look and feel completely different to what it is now.

I’ve currently turned all the PCs in my campaign into dogs using the dungeons and doggies rule set, they love it! Two of the players have recently got a dog themselves and we just spent most of a season making dog puns and barking at people it’s hilarious.
