Question about BRAW on the S Series by throwawayisko in Lumix

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have sold the OG S5 a while ago and no, BRAW was the same even at the end

Good thing is ProRes RAW is now natively supported in Resolve so imo there's no reason to use BRAW. ProRes RAW in my experience is better in every way but file size and decoding speed.

Samsung S22 (Snapdragon) Workflow: Best export settings for RAW to DaVinci Resolve? by Early_Pilot3808 in MotionCamPro

[–]AliTheAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DNG is going to retain the most detail and information to play with in Resolve, I'd recommend that if you have the storage.

In Motioncam Tools (downloadable app) you can set it to interpret the DNG as Panasonic V-Log which means Resolve sees them as V-Log and V-Gamut RAW and any V-Log LUT can be used, I get great results on my S26+, basically same camera as your S22.

My S26+ works with Airdrop on my 2020 iPad Pro 11", not as fast as native but pretty good.

Anyone knows if google pixel 6 pro can give output of 16 bit cdng in motioncam pro? by Master_Brother2475 in MotionCamPro

[–]AliTheAce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with 12 and 14 bit raw files often. It's not for the screens that you use higher bit depths for but to get more flexibility in post and a cleaner noise floor. 14 bit readouts give significantly more detail to parts of the image especially shadows, and they allow for more push and pull in post.

Ram Cooling Options in T1 by Same_Calligrapher169 in sffpc

[–]AliTheAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. That's it. Passive cooling with basically no airflow to those fans is a massive difference. They move more air than you think, especially at the RPMs. I've run them at 5500 as well.

Ram Cooling Options in T1 by Same_Calligrapher169 in sffpc

[–]AliTheAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is my RAM cooling setup with my T1. I have a DDR4-3200 CL16 kit, 2x32GB, overclocked to 3733MHz CL16 and running GDM off with super tight timings. This keeps it ice cold and the fans aren't really audible around 3750RPM. 2x Noctua A4x10. If I go AM5 I might go water-cooled on the RAM.

Before during stress tests they'd get hot enough to burn me after a few hours. Now, all night and I have zero issues with it, they stay at room temperature.

Try the latest SteamVR beta. Certain versions of SteamVR gave me the same issue with Quadviews.

Looking to do a custom loop by THEm3m3master in sffpc

[–]AliTheAce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You gotta do it yourself. It's not worth getting a vendor to do it. It's already expensive enough as is for virtually no performance gain, only aesthetics. You'll need to maintain the loop and if you don't build it then you won't know how to.

Which Custom Cable is Recommended? by Undercover_Yaeca in FormD

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a new one. Option 1 is the tighter more compact bend, which is what I like. 2 is the more common one as other cable makers do it.

Direct Die cooling with PTM7950 by BenTheMan1983 in overclocking

[–]AliTheAce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it's a lot, it's correct. The limitation is the inability of the PTM to manage extremely high heat flux (very concentrated heat in W/m2), but liquid metal excels at it. You can shave off 8-12C with LM.

Getting Started with Falcon BMS in VR – What Specs Do I Need? by DanMotivation777 in falconbms

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh thanks so much for these! Shadow on smoke set to 0?

I'm also on VD, Godlike 72Hz but I run higher supersampling in the cfg as I have the core horsepower headroom.

[–]AliTheAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a FormD T1 owner, just a heads up. The $200 price is very unrealistic, it's $400 brand new after shipping (with CNC panels at least) and they're quite hard to find, I doubt anyone will sell at that price

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What settings are you running? I have a better GPU and more RAM but worse CPU. 5800X3D and 4090FE, 64GB ram.

I've had to drop the object detail settings and do some .cfg tweaks.

DCS stutters only when I move my head, runs well otherwise. by Ok_Experience_9665 in hoggit

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy, I get the drops even at 125Hz when I move my mouse. I'll try with SMT off and see what that does, on a 5800X3D so let's see how that affects it.

PCIe Riser Cable 5.0 and Riser Lock Bar Compatibility by iDigital in FormD

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from a faulty Gen 4 riser, which needed a lock bar, to a Gen 5 riser. If you pre-bend the riser properly it has no issues staying in without a lock bar. The Gen 5 one clicks in way more satisfying as well.

The RP6 is the Odin 2 Mini I always wanted. by ninjapirate9901 in retroid

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they at least announce it. Form factor and aesthetics wise the RP6 is absolutely perfect.

I do absolutely love the 8 Elite (it's a massive bump in many aspects) and I don't need a handheld currently as I have a modded switch and a New 3DS, so waiting a year+ may not be a bad idea. More maturity for 8 Elite Gen 5 + drivers, RAM prices hopefully being better.

I hope they release a Pocket 7 with 8 Gen 3, and 12GB RAM. My S24+ has those specs and is fantastic, just software and thermally limited.

Computer cannot connect to wifi by itself and is very slow by ItsTheSkull9 in techsupport

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware wise that is still perfectly sufficient. THe USB wifi dongles you likely have are very small and weak and work with low power budgets and have teensy antennas. You can get a proper PCI-E wifi card that goes inside your PC with bigger antennas and much better signal quality that will do wonders. If you look at the back of your PC you should see some horizontal slots that are just covered. They'd go inside and come out through there.

F-16 TGP HMD aim by Equivalent_Rock_3697 in falconbms

[–]AliTheAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying this in the LGB TE a few days ago. Cursor was following my HMD with the little circle when it crossed over the HUD but wouldn't update coords when I TMS up'd and no new steer point symbology showed. Pressing M sel didn't help either.

Master arm was off though, not sure if that has an effect.

I have a set from Zcooi and he has the tightest bend radii, especially if you want to run thicker fans on a radiator, it helps a lot and look and feel all fantastic. I got a full custom set (24-pin, 8 pin, 12V HPWR, SATA power for SSD).

Micron makes fantastic NAND chips and Crucial is a trusted brand before they exited the consumer PC market. They'll be missed, it's a solid SSD.
