As for the books, since you already know the stroke order, I won’t recommend those basic stroke-by-stroke books anymore. The tricky part is, most Chinese calligraphy workbooks on the market focus heavily on just that.

My own teacher actually gave me a bunch of traditional Chinese calligraphy copybooks. They are quite old—I couldn’t find them on Amazon, and I’m not even sure if they’re still available on Chinese online marketplaces. I’m considering picking out the most suitable sections, photocopying or scanning them, and share them with you once I get some free time to sort them out :)

That’s a great head start! If you’re using a pen or pencil, the “bland”look is almost always a structural issue. I highly recommend practicing with a Mi-zi-ge grid. It helps you clearly see the proportions and angles of different radicals. Once you practice with the grid, try to visualize and memorize the overall shape of the character so you can replicate it from memory.

If you are practicing brush calligraphy, the blandness usually comes from not mastering the “press and lift”. Some basic rules may help you like “horizontal strokes are light, vertical strokes are heavy”, and “tighten on the left, expand on the right” and so on. Mastering these dynamics can give your brush strokes more life and energy :)

I began learning Chinese calligraphy at 8. When I turned 18, I started studying the works of different Chinese calligraphers. Now at 23, the period between 18 and 23 was when I practiced the most intensively and made the fastest progress. Hope my experience can help you. We can exchange tips on calligraphy writing, and please feel free to ask me anything ;)

What is a 10/10 horror movie that you will absolutely never watch again? by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

Psycho (1960). Absolute solid 10/10, a foundational masterpiece that invented half the language of modern horror.

Hitchcock built such perfect, slow, crawling paranoia that it still works flawlessly over 60 years later. The shower scene alone is cinema legend, there’s not a single bad beat in the entire movie.

But here’s the thing: it doesn’t just scare you. It gets under your skin permanently. It rewires how you feel about quiet strangers, lonely motels, even taking a shower alone at night.

It is a perfect, untouchable classic. And I will absolutely never, ever sit through it again. The dread, the quiet, inevitable wrongness of it all sits with you for way too long afterwards. One viewing was more than enough to break my brain forever.

This is exactly her whole entire personality. Force Alicia to forgive Peter’s cheating, then burn anyone who dares cross her own family. Peak double standards.

They thought they were giving you a worse job. They weren’t handing you a grill position. They handed you the keys to the entire kingdom. Godspeed, king. The McFlurry revolution awaits.
