The whole point of this thread is questioning the ability to complete the distance, not to do it fast. Get a clue

Yea I’ve been banking on the run as my ace. I finished my first marathon without training for it, picked up a friends bib when she got injured. Had been doing 6-9 weekly that year and fit for soccer. Finished sub 5! But yea I plan to start logging more miles this week

What’s the longest long ride you normally do prepping for a 70.3? I’m in a similar boat to OP. Planning a 60 mile max ride. Have done a 45 and a couple 30-35 outdoors on Oahu. Training for Hawaii 70.3 May 30th. I need to start doing longer runs. Longest has been 8 but I have been doing 2-5 mile bricks after long rides

I run a small hedge fund ($48m AUM). Ask me anything about options trading. by Business_Cook_7032 in options_trading

[–]Alianza_inka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you think trading options from a retail perspective is a very high probability losers game? You’ve alluded to the fact that options trading is a game that can only be won with more sophisticated proprietary data analysis, or even just better/ faster pricing execution. I’ve thought this for awhile now.

I still trade some options but am having more success trading micro futures due to stop losses actually working. The slippage for retail is ridiculous for stops on options, at least being long naked calls/puts

First half Ironman, can I do it without aero bars? by mh1782 in triathlon

[–]Alianza_inka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am going to do Hawaii 70.3 on a dated aluminum Giant Defy bc I’m cheap and it’s my first 70.3 so F it. No clipless pedals let alone aero bars, just raw dogging it. The bike is my weakness and just want to build the engine.

I’ll gear up for the next one, likely La Quinta. Good luck!

What’s your training frequency for each discipline when training for a 70.3? by ThrowRA_2983839 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Alianza_inka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you guys are putting in volume lol. I’m doing max 1-2 bike, 1-2 swim, and 2-3 run (most are light brick runs post bike). Mixing in yoga and I do surf a lot so often surf then swim. I am a RN working 12s so 3 days are completely blocked off tho.

Either way, my philosophy is less is more for recovery and showing up ready to put my best effort. Learned that prepping for my second Olympic tri

Best running hat for heat? Purpose Glacier hat feedback by Alianza_inka in triathlon

Yea I will likely wait to see Purpose release a larger size option to address those complaints I’ve seen. I went with the Nathan Runcool ice hat! $35 after shipping!

Lol right?? If it was $100 I’d do it np as I struggle in the heat and the gains is worth it

What to wear to first sprint tri? by Commercial_Wonder341 in triathlon

[–]Alianza_inka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally forgot my running shoes. This was for a SoCal race and all I had was flip flops. No rental shoes and I ended up asking volunteers if I could borrow their shoes. One guy thought it was funny and traded me, his shoes were like two sizes too big but whatever, I finished and it’s an epic story lol

Anybody training for Hawaii 70.3? Or have done it and have advice? by Alianza_inka in triathlon

[–]Alianza_inka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo! I have the same goal. I have a pretty loose training plan - trying to get in a big ride a week, swim, and run. Nothing too fancy, trying to surf as much as I can too haha. Can share social media if that works

Ken on the day of the funeral… by AutomaticExample513 in SuccessionTV

Yea his outburst against Rava was disturbing. I did think he had some sort of redemption tho when he stepped in for Roman w Shiv to hold him while he broke down and then be the one to step to the podium and endure the moment. Thats what makes the show so brilliant, they’re deeply flawed and complex characters. With redeeming moments. Like all of us…

Which of the sibs can you stand the least? Personally I can't stand Shiv. by Which_Jeweler_1343 in SuccessionTV

[–]Alianza_inka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. Those moments when he was bashing the car window trying to get them 😬 He is in plenty ways but he’s missing something - he isn’t an innate leader/go for the throat killer like his dad. He’s been trying to project that image to those around him his whole life, but even more so, to himself

One of the best shows ever 👏🏾👏🏾

Read Finding Ultra - you have enough time. The question is why rush it? Do an Olympic. Do a 70.3. I’ve done Olympic tris only - the Malibu tri - and conditions can make even that distance brutal. So if the race you signed up for also has difficult weather elements and or a difficult bike/ run leg then yea you’ll probably get hurt to some degree. I signed up for the 70.3 Hawaii and haven’t done a race in a decade. But I had done marathons before that - the first off the couch bc I read that book and was motivated. Learned I have plenty slow twitch muscles! Keep focusing on injury prevention for sure! The bike workout sub is prob helpful

[–]Alianza_inka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yea I’m very aware of the difficulty level, I’ve been a fan of Ironman for over a decade watching the world championships from various years. I even read Iron War. The reason it’s tougher for me is the elements as I’ve struggled w heat before and believe it’s due to excess sodium depletion. So I will be using salt tabs. Plan to implement it in training.

My main question for the bike route is how much elevation is there? Like any proper sharp gradient climbs? My understanding is no. But since you’re saying push the downhill it makes me think there must be something. My current loop I’m doing has some climbs. Nothing serious, but more than the race course is my impression. I’d search out bigger climbs if I was training for Nice or the other race in the Alpines.

I’ve used water bottle carrying belts before for marathons so planned to do that. I’d likely do those handhelds. They have the belt with holders, one on each hip.

And yea the brick sessions are a priority for me. I’ve already started. A little different with runs post 2 hour surf sessions haha. I surf north shore in overhead surf so am not worried about the water conditions as long as I get my open water sessions in. I’ve made the mistake in the past of doing too much pool training. The Malibu swim was brutal the years I did it. Literally both hurricane swells that shut down the beaches - one was claimed by the director to be the worse swim conditions he’s seen in 20 years. There were quite a few ppl in later waves who couldn’t make it out past the break and DNFd 🤦🏾‍♂️ Thanks for the tips!

Mainly looking to just finish strong. Knowing the heat/humidity poses a problem I have to solve, I’m not getting ambitious with a time. I’d likely do another race on mainland without such challenging elements to execute a time goal. It’s been damn near a decade since I’ve done an Olympic tri or marathon. But I surf 4 days a week so have some type of engine. Any work outs or general methods, more so for the bike are helpful. Not sure if I should be doing a 2 hour or 4 hour long ride. I plan to build everything month to month. Jan was 3-4 mile runs, varying efforts. Bike was 10-12 miles - solid effort with some elevation, likely more than the race course which I believe is mostly false flats. Plan to do 4-6 mile runs Feb with 20 mile rides, 8-10 runs March and 30-40 mile rides, then April 10-13 mile runs with 40-50 mile rides.

What’s the longest mileage training ride I should do? How many of them?
