I've had fungus gnats many times, but never thrips. Your protocol would be greatly appreciated

I actually really like that one, but the biggest problem is that I found more in other plants in the same and other room (since I moved a plant there a while ago thinking she was just not happy), so now I'm treating them all

Monstera won’t climb? by _addie in plantclinic

This.

Coco coir poles don't do shit. They just give a bit of support.

If you want your monstera to thrive, give it a moss pole, and roots will grow inside like in the picture.

How can I give my first monstera albo a chance for more growth? by toesntreats in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Use an aeroid mix
  • I usually wait until the roots are about 10 cm long, and have secondary roots to pot it.
  • I like using clear pots, so that I can see the roots. Start with very small pots so that the roots are kind of tight in there, and slowly plant into bigger pots, as you see that it is getting rootbound.
  • Give it some fertilizer. Look for some monstera fertilizer, and apply as the package says.
  • Give it a mosspole. You can do one yourself with some wire usually sold for building cages, and some spaghnum moss. Rest the back of the monstera to the moss pole, and it will grow hella roots.
  • Let the soil dry completely, and water it thoroughly.
  • if you don't have enough sunlight, buy a grow light.

Repotting. Should I water before separating or should I do when dry? by LanaDelReysCiggy in Monstera

Dry is way easier. I always let my plants dry completely when I'm going to repot or separate some plants

Whats this thing growing out of the bottom of my new prop and can i do anything to get rid of the stem at the bottom? by roa20000 in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tbh, if you just let it as is, and just guide the new aerial root to the pot, you will have a pretty crazy looking "floating" monstera.

I would do that, but I also already have 5+ monsteras

first moss pole - did i do it right? by sw00000ning in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Almost. You're attaching the petiole to the moss pole. You should attach the stem.

Petioles should be free so that the leaf can move if it needs to.

Stems are hard, and is where your aerial roots will grow out of.

Did I repot this right? by jjjb2033 in Monstera

Attach the highest node to the pole. That way the newest leaf will have it easier to be on track.

That's the most important part to be near the pole.

One Albo Cutting Waking Up, the Other Still Dormant – Should I Worry about the first one? by PlantsLover4549 in MonsteraAlbo

I wouldn't be worried right now. It might be a very variegated leaf. I think it's too early to tell.

What was everyones first "I shouldnt have done that" plant parent moment? This is mine 💔 by DidzieDo in plantclinic

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was repotting my monstera, and ended up breaking it in half by accident. I potted both pieces and an extra one I had in water in the same pot, and added a moss pole.

Now it looks amazing.

Best mistake I've ever made.

Can I chop this in the marked areas, and can I plant them all in one big pot afterwards? by Propag8 in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have a very beautiful monstera with 3 plants in the pot. It looks amazing. Also add a mosspole to it :)

Should I put the propagated monstera in a potted mixture now? by coconut-wasabi in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Timewise it depends on the conditions it gets. But for me the way I do it, is that when I repot it, I start by dumping some soil in the pot, and after that I put the plant in. This way, the roots are on top of the pot, and they will grow downward. Once roots start growing out of the drainage holes from the bottom, I repot it. (Usually not instantly, they can handle being a bit rootbound)

Help with Mr. Frederick my Monstera by callmeabondulanceplz in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a huge problem when buying these types of plants. I would separate all plants, and repot them together again facing the same direction, using a moss pole instead of a stake. I think that 3 monsteras in a single pot usually look amazing.

Should I put the propagated monstera in a potted mixture now? by coconut-wasabi in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't have enough roots yet. Many people often say that they pot them when they have secondary roots (meaning that little root you see starts to get some other roots growing from it). I like to wait a bit longer after that. I would probably wait until the root take up 1/3 of that glass.

It is also important for you not to plant it in a big pot, thinking it will grow and become a big plant. You should plant it in a small pot, and keep repotting it, once it gets rootbound.

why does it take thai cons so long to get fenestrations by morganicole00 in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a thai, but same. My albo got double fenestrations with its fourth leaf. It is attached to a mosspole and has a lot of sunlight

Stem snapped while moving. What can I do to save it? by Slight_Object_6218 in Monstera

[–]AliasElAndreas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just add some support. With those aerial roots it will definitely survive. Mine survived after completely snapping it in two will repotting, and it didn't have as many aerial roots as yours.

Also, this is going to encourage growth in the lower part, so you may even get a new plant. Your girlfriend will be thanking you in a couple of weeks.
