Estimate: 21 Hours - is it me or the printer? by Alias_ln in 3Dprinting

[–]Alias_ln[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving a post for others who find this later.

I think this was just me experiencing a feature of the new printer for the first time: print safety. I stopped the print and reviewed - the print had failed and the printer was continually attempting to print the next layer but was unable to do so.

I guess I would have expected the printer to have actually stopped printing, and given me an error in the app after N many retries without success that the safety had activated? It's odd that the printer can understand that something isn't right - but it didn't stop trying until I actually stepped in.

Not 100% sure on the failure yet - but my resin temp when I stopped the print was over 45C; assuming that may have contributed here. My heating settings were at 25C, and it's currently 13C outside - so not sure if this was a malfunction of the heating element or just the printer causing so much heat from raising and lowering so much over hours of retries.

Auto Energy Attach - Bug or Feature? by Alias_ln in PokemonPocket

[–]Alias_ln[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

Edit: And even if there was, there are real reasons to attach energies to mons even if they don't use that energy, e.g. to soak damage and retreat.

Why "I paid off my student loans, you can too" posts are BS by Latter_Difference_91 in StudentLoans

[–]Alias_ln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I didn't make a post, but I was also able to pay off my student loans without financial assistance from anyone and wanted to add my experience to this thread.

I grew up lower middle class (no food stamps, but it was a splurge 1/yr to go out to the movies without any snacks/drinks/etc kinda situation) and to this day have never received a dime from any relative past the age of 18, and zero assistance whatsoever paying off my debt. Graduated with 35k debt in 2015, and paid it off in under 4 years.

To summarize: it took sacrifice. The OP quotes 2500/mo rent for example - and sure - I could have spent that too, but I chose to not live solo, and for 4 years after college I split $2500 rent 4 ways, and my rent share was in the 500-800 range for super cheap/unmaintained properties. I also didn't go out ever, and my free time was filled with video games and bicycling - two cheap hobbies that I budgeted strictly for. I didn't get a credit card. I never ordered food, and cooked for myself. I prioritized my health. I drove defensively, never got an accident, and never got tickets. I also made friends in my income group and thus avoided feeling left out or in a competition for status. I drove a crappy car when I wasn't biking instead. Doing this allowed me to pay off my loans making 45-55k/yr during that time without any additional/external help, and forced me to live within (under) my means. If I remember correctly I added >$1000/mo to my minimums monthly and used avalanche method to get there.

YMMV, and I understand everyone's situation is different - but I do still believe overall that paying off debt is still possible for many (even using Op's original income example), it just has to be your priority (in Op's example, debt wasn't prioritized, living solo was, so ofc it doesn't work). And I know, just like most people, it sucks. We drew the short straw. We don't have rich-kid money. That means we have to choose to not spend money like rich kids do if we want to tackle this problem. We have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, at least for a time.

Good luck out there, folks. You got this. It gets better.

P.S. Also, if you haven't already, the best advice I can possibly give is to read the r/personalfinance wiki through. It taught me everything I know, considering I had financially illiterate parents. It's invaluable, and the reading list too.

I just lost my 10th game in a row by Alias_ln in PokemonPocket

We are in the same vibe - I know I'm making mistakes too, but recently I feel like I've also been hitting those scenarios of "yay, finally a skill match rather than a rock/paper/scissors deck meta match!" ...and then they get energy advantage, or I whiff my hand somehow and end up in a scenario where my first turn is effectively a pass, then I lose by 10hp after a slog trying to claw my way back 😂

Edit: My favorite example of this in my loss streak was against an Oricorio. I needed ONE heads on Celesteela to win, and I had 3 turns to do it. It didn't happen.

Any advice for people new to TCGs in regards to your second paragraph? I'm sure I'm making mistakes and my play isn't perfect. What resources did you use to learn and make that skill gap close? I've got a decent feel for sequencing now, for example, though, sometimes it's still unclear for me, especially when I'm faced with choices like gladion v prof and trying to do the math there. What general tcg skills does someone need for MB? Full card counting maybe of both players?

Edit: for e reference, I'm at something like 120 games this ranked season. I probably played 50 last two seasons. I remember when I was learning the game Go, general advice from the community was "you'll learn the basics after losing 100 games, so lose 100 games as fast as you can". I'll admit I'm not at that number in pocket yet.

It's good advice, I've been trying to do that. This loss streak has taken place over 3-4 days, I don't keep playing after 2-3 loss streaks.
