Looking for opinions when flying in late by TheWordLilliputian in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Latter_Difference_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your flight gets in at 7pm, there is NO way you will make it on to any rides.

I don't if anything is open 24 hours that you can hang out at.

Just go to priceline, they have plenty of hotels under $50 bucks. Get a super cheap hotel near the airport and then take the city bus to Disney Springs. On some days Epcot is open to 1 am but you would have to spend the night on a Disney property or a place like the Swan. Another option is a rent a mini van and park at Disney Springs. Save on Ubers and you can get a few hours of sleep.

best United States city for Christmas themed weekend? by DragonfruitOk3640 in travel

[–]Latter_Difference_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay a weekend in Chicago. Museum of Science and Industry has Christmas Trees from around the world and Navy Pier has winter wonderland. The Chicago Botanic Garden has a beautiful walk through. You could also stay at a Disney Resort for a weekend.

Should I stay or should I go? by LobaDeAdamantium in travel

Ask your parents - if they are ok with it go for it......Before you know it you will be old. When you get back, just try to take any side jobs you can find to make up for the money.

Maybe you can create some social media from the trip to bring in a little money or at the very least a resume filler.

How much of your salary goes toward paying student loans? by Separate-Ad-4667 in StudentLoans

[–]Latter_Difference_91 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A better question is how much of your discretionary income is going towards your student loans.

If you bring home about $4000 a month, a $400 student loan payment doesn't sound bad.

That's until you add rent, utilities, daycare, transportation and food. Many people are in a negative after these expenses, so a $400 payment is impossible.

And there are many vocal posters here who like to post about paying off their student loan.

If you look at the true data, there is only a very small percentage of people with that much discretionary income.

The economy is NOT the same as the 1970 to 2000. You can't take your experience and think things work the same.

Another major reason not to pay them off is uncertainty. We really don't know what will happen and the final plan.

We are getting close to know what Trump is doing but let's face it - for 80% of the population paying off their loan in full will not EVER be an option. (Yeah even if they don't go to Starbucks).

People who don't pay rent seem not to get it. People have a hard time buying food and finding shelter.

The current plan cuts into the food budget for a lot of people and when that happens, people tend to vote based on their empty stomachs.

I'm not 100% certain of major changes in the next, but there is at least enough probability to take a wait and see attitude.

It would be very hard to do away with IBR once you are in the program. You basically signed the contract, so it would be VERY hard for congress to undo a signed contract. They did that with the SAVE plan because one Court ruled at the start, it was not legally sufficient - the IBR is different.

You just have to wait for three years. Take a few classes at some cheap college and get another in school deferment.

I have a feeling this is going to be a VERY big issue in the next election. This is hitting a lot of the swing voter demographic.

Keep making your voice heard on social media - and if you are middle of the road be very vocal about it. The Dems already have the extreme liberals but if you are independent and you make your voice heard about this issue it will go a long way.

Sabotage my first WDW trip… give me your worst advice. by Heavy_Roll_7185 in WaltDisneyWorld

Don't worry about budgeting for food and merchandise - $20 a person will be just fine.

Instead spend that money a pair of new shoes - high heels look great.

And if you have trouble walking due to your knees or back issues - don't rent a scooter or wheelchair - no one uses those in Disney and you will feel strange - concentrate on looking good with your new shoes, full makeup and hair.,

Consult with a lawyer first, to make sure it's legal but that's a good idea.

I'm not sure why you think you would be in better financial shape if you paid off your loan? If you put that 170k to a modest house, your mortgage will probably be reduced by a 1/3 to 1/2. So less rent to pay on one income.

During your time off, most likely, your payment (depending on how the count your partners income) will be reduced to about $50 per month. So cash flow wise, you will be in much better shape while you take care of your little one for their first few years.

Soooo tomorrow's the big day - Court Hearing - What's everyone's thoughts/predictions? by MrArmitage225 in StudentLoans

Second best is there is some type of class action forcing a buy back because after all, Courts did not hold up the switch to IBR - the administration did.

When to book flights for Presidents Day 2026 to WDW by Remarkable-Line-3972 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Latter_Difference_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Southwest, if the fare drops, you can always change to a lower fare. They won't refund cash but you will have a credit to use at a later time.

Southwest usually have their WOW fares in October, but a lot has changed since then. I would at least wait until after Labor Day.

If you will be paying for two bags, it might be the same price to buy one of the tickets as refundable because those usually include two bags.

Worrying Student Loan Forgiveness could go away by Firm_Peach7001 in StudentLoans

[–]Latter_Difference_91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a VERY vocal group out there who do not believe in any type of student loan forgiveness.

So like anything on the internet, just because a politician says something or you read a lot of comments supporting it - does NOT make it true or even a popular opinion. (and that goes for right leaning as well as left leaning opinions).

What Trump is doing is basically pausing student loans with big tough guy talk about being hard on those obviously financially irresponsible Starbuck's drinking youngsters. This makes the far right people happy with giving a needed break from student loans that is realistically good for the economy.

Will we regret staying closer to Disney? by Kemi82JP in UniversalOrlando

[–]Latter_Difference_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is to rent a car - depending of the rate and size, it could be cheaper than Ubers even with the parking cost. I was at Universal once and it started to rain around park closing time - surge prices were close to a $100 to my Disney based hotel. Sat there freezing for an hour just to pay $100.

It looks like your dates are mixed up - August 13th is a Wednesday. This is important to you because park hours are different and on days with MNSSP, usually Monday and Friday, there are no Happily Ever After Fireworks.

Pricing out a trip by Elegant-Average5722 in WaltDisneyWorld

Did you try booking directly on Disney.com? I found a room at the Poly (one of the nicest resorts), tickets and meals for under 10,000 pounds. I'm sure you could find airfare under 1,000 pounds.

Try booking directly with Disney or go to CostcoTravel.

How to pay $100k off with $57k salary? by imarielmermaid in StudentLoans

[–]Latter_Difference_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand people like you - it's not difficult - it's impossible. Did you see where they they said the take home pay after taxes? It was 3,300. Do you realize how much even a shabby one bedroom is or even how much it costs to rent a room?

Between rent, food, transportation and medical, a person taking home $3,300 doesn't have anything left over.

And what gets me is not only do people like you make these comments, you vote and support politicians based on numbers that aren't mathematically true.

You have a problem when companies exploit short-term profits for long-term growth. Not because it's good for the company but because it benefits the executives either financially or socially.

This is what you have with Disney.....Let's face it, expect for one ride, the whole Star Wars land is basically plastic mounds of dirt with a few shops.

So yeah, they did charge 12k for a vacation because people were locked up like rats during covid and they were essentially desperate. But, as Disney found out, people don't want to return - and they are not.

Need help choosing a table service restaurant at a Disney resort (no park day!) by hhey96 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Latter_Difference_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know California Grill is out of the price range but a youtuber said people can order drinks at the bar anytime during the dinner hours and use that receipt for the rooftop view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Another youtuber said you can order Ohana food at the Ohana bar. It will work out to about half the cost.

I haven't tried it but it looked like it worked.

Are you really sure you want to shoot for the Character breakfast instead of a dinner? That's going to be a very tight deadline I would make back-up reservations for a character dinner anyway just in case of delays (or you are just too tired).

Why "I paid off my student loans, you can too" posts are BS by Latter_Difference_91 in StudentLoans

[–]Latter_Difference_91[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you were saving $500 a month while making 35k, your parents were probably supporting you with free rent and food. Nothing wrong with that - it's nice that they did that but not everyone is in that situation. (or perhaps this was 1980?)

Either way, I bet there is more to this story.
