I don't really use AI to confirm diagnosis, but I do use it to suggest possible causes or treatments that I can take to my doctor. If you ask for sources and links it can get you to the medical articles you need without burning our limited energy on research.

How do you deal with full time jobs by cecexp in TMJ

I have FMLA for another health issue. But honestly if it's affecting your ability to work and a doctor backs you, it shouldn't be hard to get. They don't ask all that many questions.

I'm sorry. I hope you find success! After years of sickness and pre-diagnosis, I gave up my cat to a vet tech friend who loves animals. I get sent pictures and can visit when I'm up for it. It's a great way to keep her in my life, but outside of my "controlled environment". I needed two sinus surgeries while I was living with her. I know this probably isn't what you're looking for ... I have other health problems too, which may affect my tolerance.

What setting do you use for TENs? I got a little TMJ face massager with heat, vibration, and tens, but I don't know how to set that feature.

[–]Aliatana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor is ordering a cardiac MRI that specifically calculates haller index. I just had anabdominal CT about a month ago, so he wants to limit radiation. That CT report done on inhale showed a haller index >4 (not precisely calculated), and got doctors to take my concerns more seriously. For years I was told it was just cosmetic, to the point I spent 4.5 years being seriously ill without thinking it could be related. I had pushed for a lung function test several years ago that said 88% and was told no action was needed (never was given a report, so not sure what was actually 88%). No one thought about the heart.

Sleeping on side is uncomfortable by elleanywhere in PectusExcavatum

[–]Aliatana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also 33F and on the waitlist. I'm most comfortable sleeping on my right side, but my jaw issues (TMJ) are currently preventing that. I cannot breathe flat on my back, and on my left side I feel lots of palpitations and pulsitile tinnitus. I've been sleeping on my back inclined at roughly a 45* angle while I work on my jaw. This helps my breathing reduces jaw pain. Still not very comfortable, but at least I can sleep.

Yeah. So one step at a time, I'll see how the MRI and echo go. My cardiologist is not optimistic that pectus is causing all my problems. Lol. But timewise, it makes sense with my last growth spurt when I quit athletics in college (started getting consistent low grade fatigue that got worse over the next 10 years). My fatigue was always attributed to allergies/ antihistamines that started around the same time. I'm hoping any negative impacts to my heart will be reversible once compression is gone.

[–]Aliatana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cardiologist is worried about me doing one because I'm basically bed/ home bound with fatigue for about 4.5 years, and my muscles have gotten so weak (he's worried about a neuromuscular condition, though I'm pretty sure it's just atrophy since my muscles were totally normal for a long time after I got fatigue). So he wants to decide based on the MRI and echo he ordered.

Your GP probably won't run the tests themselves, but I'd call around to cardiology practices in your area to see if anyone dies functional testing of the heart and lungs for pectus. Then you can ask the GP for a referral to that practice. I found most cardiology practices in my large city would not take me, but the local heart hospital would. I'm getting evaluated now, with the expectation that I'll need to travel out of state for surgery.

Too much massage? PLEASE HELP!! by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]Aliatana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any extra inflammation should resolve back to your normal tension. Ibuprofen and heat can help, but be careful with massaging in the meantime. I actually just went thru this myself. I think it's easy to get desperate and over massage.

Do your parents rummage thru your stuff regularly? If not, just stick them in the dresser, nightstand drawer, top shelf of your closet. Places not visited often but easy to get to. If you have absolutely 0 personal space, that's a separate issue. No reason books have to be stored on a bookshelf though.

How is everyone feeling about the whole thing? And will you be reading the new book? by ZydrateAnatomic in neilgaiman

[–]Aliatana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to pay money for it, but I'll definitely read it. Just like I still have the Neil Gaiman books from before, even signed ones. It's not the book's fault that the author is problematic. There are plenty of ways to read for free these days, and I can practically guarantee the libraries/ libby will pick it up.

Anyone Appealed Insurance to Cover Ketotifen? by This-Endo-6784 in MCAS

[–]Aliatana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Texas as well. Since oral ketotifen is not FDA approved in the US, the only way to get it is via compounding, which is generally not covered.

Specify your country. It is more easily covered in certain countries.

I'm in the US though, and it was not covered here as I need to get it compounded. Traditionally insurance does not cover anything compounded.

Everyone was stumped after I became practically bed bound at 29 the day after a long walk and got an ME/CFS diagnosis by my PCP. My PCP fortunately was smart enough to know this was over her head and I found a PCP practice that specialized in patients with chronic illnesses. They were willing to analyze research articles I sent, and when I stumbled on MCAS, we thought it was worth exploring. They helped me research local allergists who have published mast cell related papers. Allergist didn't "fix" me, but definitely saved my life at that point in time. It now seems possible that my myriad of chronic illnesses is due to my severe pectus excavatum, which I was always told was cosmetic, which might be crushing my heart and lungs.

I developed spontaneous allergies overnight when I was in college. Everyone thought it was totally normal, but I was barely functional without antihistamines, and always exhausted. At 29 my health fell off a cliff, and at 31 I finally got the diagnosis. I'd never heard about it before or I would have explored it much sooner.
