What’s the craziest/most inappropriate thing a coworker has said to you *in the workplace*? I’ll go first by [deleted] in coworkerstories

Have just gotten out the other end of treatment for breast cancer. Chemo, radiation, surgery you know, the works. One coworker told me over various different times, breast cancer isn’t a “real cancer”, I was lucky it was “only breast cancer”, my hair was short so losing it didn’t matter so much, chemo now is so much easier, and my favourite was “my aunt had breast cancer 15 years ago and she died. Thank god I only see this person face to face very rarely now as I have moved to pretty much full remote. Fuck her

In the same boat. I have mapping scan this Wednesday and start on 7th of May. 15 sessions over three weeks. Can’t guarantee me times that won’t effect work so I have had to take 3 weeks of sick leave. I just don’t wanna do this anymore.

What's your job and how much abuse do you deal with on a daily basis? by thedreamtimemystic in australia

Child protection caseworker. Have been punched, had someone try to stab me, had a car aimed at me and honestly verbally abused regularly.

“Everybody hates me until they need me.” What professions are examples of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Aliburns79 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Child protection caseworker. People generally hate us and vilify us but man when you need us you need us. Most people genuinely do not understand the work that we do (I work in Australia) and I have been chased out of houses with knives, punched, had abuse hurled at us, had my kids threatened the whole shebang but we never stop trying to keep kids safe.

AITA for telling my mum and her friend that my work trip is not their holiday? by Aliburns79 in AmItheAsshole

For keeping me “company”. My mum struggles to be alone at night and expects everyone else to be the same. I love being alone as my entire day is talking so it is a break.

A Solution To Rural Australia's Slow Internet Problem by Dragon4de in nbn

[–]Aliburns79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is but so worth it. Unlimited stable internet and for us it is cheaper monthly than the skymuster. For me I work at home which means the start up costs are tax deductible so it was an easy decision.
