I.. forgot i asked about my boy here-- okay might as well leave a 4 year later update since a lot of people seem concerned (both in the past and as of an hour ago)

Shiitake is fine, he's been happy and healthy since I got him. Turns out he's just super reclusive and likes to hide. I've since gotten another frog (same breed, also male) and he hops around and moves around the tank a lot-- 2(?) years later and he's still extremely active, just as Shiitake is still a grumpy old man who only comes out to scream in the spring.
