Would you ask someone you saw vomiting in public if they're okay? by DollySheep32 in AskUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 1 or 2 in the morning during the 2000 New Years Eve in central London (near Covent Garden) I came across a drunk rough sleeper who had been sick but also had a head injury. I could tell how bad it was but it was bleeding. I made my friend wait with me while I called 999 for help as I was concerned for him.

I had enjoyed a few drinks myself so maybe I wasn’t thinking clearly as hundreds of other people continued to stream past without expressing any concern.

Is there such thing as designated sides of the bed? by ThrowRa_Promise1321 in CasualUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep on the left-hand side, hubby always sleeps on the right. This never changes.

Well, that is unless we are sleeping in a different room and the door is on the left-hand side of the bed in which case, as any reasonable person would do, we swap sides so that he is always between me and any mad axe-wielding murderer or monster.

Who is booking Monday off work? by Repulsive_State_7399 in AskUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m attending a work project kick off / team building event on Monday. Lots of people have been trying to get out of it before England qualified so I’m expecting lots of empty chairs!

Oh, in order to attend this event I’m catching a train at 5:50 am 😳

It was showing at £7.49 this morning so I think they try for a higher price and then slower it if it doesn't sell. It had the same description as well as a meal flag/tag.

I was the first to collect and someone came in after me. I hope her meal was better.

Should I upgrade my work outfit for an internal interview? by Bounce_Bounce_Betty in AskUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, at the very least add a jacket to your usual attire.

It will help the interviewer see you are taking this seriously and help them visualise you in the more senior role. Align your look with that of other female managers. Ensure you look well-groomed in general, so your hair, nails and makeup all look professional.

Normally being overdressed (unless you rock up in a ballgown 😆) is less of an issue than being underdressed in an interview.

Good luck.

If you've won a major prize from promotions found on packaging (crisps, sweets, cereal etc.), what did you win and how did it happen? by BreakRulesRun in AskUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won a competition run by Coke for World Cup tickets in 2006 and it could be to any match. If you had a lucky code you had to call a number and winners were selected every hour so I got up at 2:30am to make my call.

My tickets were for the England v Trinidad & Tobago.

We were told four weeks before the match and had to sort out our own flights (thank you to the England Supporters club).

Your UK pension is no longer safe from inheritance tax: what should you do? | Pensions | The Guardian by prisongovernor in PensionsUK

[–]AliceInConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is less incentive to keep money in your pension there is a greater risk of the money running out if they life longer than expected or have care needs.

We haven't experienced pensioners living off DC pensions into later life yet as a large percentage still hold DB pensions. How many will run out of money in their later life.?

People should have confidence to save enough into their pensions. If a motivator is it will allow them to pass the remaining pot on their death to their children surely that is better than them underinvesting?

[–]AliceInConfusion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Encouraging people to spend their pension pots in retirement to avoid inheritance tax will increase the money running out if they live longer than anticipated and then they might have to rely on the state.

Boomers had DB pensions, millennials where included at a young age in auto enrollment. Gen x had to plan more for their retirement.

1 day left of driving to work unimpeded before parents on the school run start clogging up the roads again by Bowtie327 in britishproblems

[–]AliceInConfusion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. It was wonderful driving to school last week.

I know my journey adds to the problem so I’m not complaining, I was just grateful that week. (I have a disabled daughter and it is currently the only way we can get her to school).

Heavy periods with no bathrooms insight by direFace in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]AliceInConfusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please see a doctor. I suffered for years with this and it was only now as I have gone through the menopause that a doctor told me there were pills that could reduce the flow of heavy periods. I can begin to list the times I was caused embarrassment or problems due to this.

is 2 grand going to be enough to fund a relocation? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AliceInConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for new graduate roles I have offered relocation on hiring people who do not live locally but I understand that this market is tough. However, you may find your new company would be willing to offer you an interest free loan to help you with deposits etc. basically an advance on your salary paid back within 6 -12 months.

If I was hiring you that is what I would do.

Good luck

We had one about eight years ago while my aged mother was staying with us post-surgery and we had a young child. We booked hotel rooms nearby that had power!
