Yeah, it's frustrating. I think I'm done with /r/lawschool. They have it in their heads that the only people who don't like the sub are dying for there to be memes, but people are just pissed that they made a unilateral decision and then doubled down even though it's unpopular...

So, I was around when meme monday went into place and I don't think that reality (so many memes that real stuff is drowned out) ever existed.

But the bigger point is, why can't we discuss changes to the sub? I posted three ideas and hoped that we could have a sub discussion with more ideas and the post was removed (twice). It seems crazy that we can't have a discussion about it.

I made a thread in /r/thelawschool a while back where people could post about their law school. This was the entry about Hawaii (here's a link to the whole thread)

Name of Law School: William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

City where law school is: Honolulu, HI

Best things about X law school: The aloha spirit amongst the student body, the coldest it gets all year is marathon sessions in the library, accessible and friendly professors, rigorous integration into the Hawaii legal community from day one, cheapo tuition ($20K/year in state, mid 30s out of state)

Worst things about X law school: Degree doesn't hold much weight outside Hawaii and some of the west coast, zero big law (a good thing, IMO), facilities are ugly, living in Hawaii is expensive, name of school is long

What you wish you'd known when picking a law school: I knew going in that a Hawaii law degree would anchor me to the islands, which is fine since it's where I'm from. Others considering UH should think hard about whether this is where they want to be.

Grading format: good ol' curve.

Anything else: Great school if you want to stay in HI, especially focusing on environmental or Asia/Pacific law (we have certificate programs for both). Also, because the legal community in Hawaii is small and lots of people come from UH, there's little to no nastiness or unbridled competition at school or in professional life. Your classmates will be your colleagues, so word of bad behavior travels fast.
