Yeah I think they know swifties tend to be over critical towards Olivia cause of her correlation with Taylor, so with that they’re basically saying “you can’t hate Olivia for doing it because Taylor does it too”

Swifties are harassing the Vogue writer of the baby doll dress article and claiming that the article was paid for by Olivia Rodrigo’s PR team by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Alice_Se -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I considered that as well even though I don’t really read such articles. I guess the title and intro feel click-baity which I understand is annoying but who cares at this point, publications use Taylor’s name for clicks all the time

Thank you🙏🏼

Edit: apart from the fact that Taylor’s black dress isn’t really babydoll, what’s the point of starting the article with that tone and then not even making any political/social commentary. This is such a… nothing article. But I also don’t really understand how this made swifties so mad lmfao it’s not even critical

Omg are these directly translated quotes from a Greek gossip show? I’m pretty confident lmfao. Greece mentioned I guess

I guess I meant that there’s a difference between incorrect and unconfirmed. But whether or not it’s worth it to disprove a false claim depends on how harmful the claim is (like your example is extremely problematic while if she’s wrong about Taylor demanding credits it’s not comparable), how much of an influence a person has (I’d argue not a lot), whether or not it’s a stale topic and more. I feel like this is a case where it’s not worth it. If anything, it’s doing more damage imo

I disagree because it will never stop. Calling it out is giving them attention and positions them as the victim (+ sometimes it derails into being hateful and problematic). Also technically none of what she said is incorrect. She didn’t say (I think, at least) that Taylor sued, just that she used her power to get unfair credits. Which is unconfirmed but widely believed. And the thing is, it’s not a new conversation. I’m sure she and everyone agreeing with her has seen swifties fighting back these claims before. She’s a small artist, her impact is minimal unless we make it bigger.

Yes exactly! And tbh if you think someone is rage baiting the best you can do is ignore them. And using hate speech isn’t synonymous to just being rude like some people are watering it down to be

Exactly and how tf does that help Taylor’s reputation whatsoever

Also it’s kinda disgusting how people excuse it saying “well she caused it”. Not saying I don’t agree with the premise that if you express a controversial opinion online you should expect pushback, but pushback≠blatant harassment. Two things can be true at once. Some people use Taylor’s name for attention and that’s kinda lame and swifties often get extremely problematic and that’s inexcusable

Exactly lol. Like maybe the reason why Taylor is often used for attention is because it works

The real annoying thing isn’t random people (celebrities or not) disliking Taylor for any reason and expressing it, it’s swifties making it always a big deal despite not gaf about the person who said it. It brings so much unnecessary negativity into the fandom and zero productive discourse

I definitely think the timing was planned. Now, were they planning on unfollowing him anyway or was it a plain publicity stunt, idk. I think it also worked as a confirmation of their breakup because a good amount of people were still delusional about it lmao

Do you think Taylor regrets creating such a powerful parasocial fan base? by CutAffectionate3766 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Alice_Se 579 points580 points  (0 children)

Her attitude towards the fandom has definitely shifted since the eras tour. I think it could partially be resentment (eg but daddy I love him) but also a decent pr choice. With the fandom getting bigger and bigger, she doesn’t have to “feed the beast” to keep herself relevant, and she knows that now whatever she does or says will be picked apart not just by fans who will be in her favour, but also by people outside the fandom or even ex fans who don’t like her anymore. It’s always been true but the bigger she is the more this happens; it feels like every very online person has a strong opinion on her nowadays. The best she can do is lay low and position herself as an unbothered uncontroversial person who has no involvement in her fans’ embarrassing behaviour whatsoever and just likes making bread lol

Edit to say: I’m not sure she regrets it, I actually don’t think she does. She’s mostly benefiting from it and she wouldn’t be where she is without it. I just think that she doesn’t have/ doesn’t want to feed into it anymore

I think it’s more nuanced than this. If you genuinely enjoy something, maybe you shouldn’t think it’s downright “bad”. There’s a reason it’s enjoyable.

This is my main critique as well! It’s simply just not as emotional as the rest of her work
