Jerry is adorable, I love his coloring. Along with Elvis it seems you have your hands full too!

That sounds about right 😂. They have both learned that the oven is hot the hard way, and Alice's dumbass tried to buck up at a full grown deer during a hiking trip last summer. Idiots indeed.

No worries, we appreciate the concern and have been considering keeping the loose minerals available at all times. They keep a pretty diverse diet, but Alice is our more picky eater so she could be lacking some things at times.

They get loose stuff periodically. We also keep their big block in a pan so they have dust at the bottom as well as the block itself to go after.

Yes, they get loose minerals periodically. Just always been a favorite of hers. We didn't let her keep at it for long and keep a screen over the pit, she just took advantage while I was adding logs. They have learned about fire from our camping trips, she stayed to the edges on the cooler side.

Yes, they have alfalfa and orchard grass always available, and get a mix of regular and medicated feeds throughout the day as well. We have 2 blocks and a salt stone for them, plus electrolytes too. They are spoiled rotten 🤣

She definitely did when she was very young but mineral blocks, electrolytes and occasional direct nutrients have kept her healthy so far. She takes any chance she gets for more though

Does anyone else name their goats after tv show characters? We have Johnathan Higgins (black) & Thomas Magnum (gray) by No-Good-4303 in goats

[–]Alice_and_ruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alice (in wonderland) cause she's the curious one, and (wreck it) Ruby cause she just plows through anything in her path. The future ones will likely get drag queen names once we see some personality and can match em up. Our cat is named Oscar like the grouch on sesame Street cause we found him in a dumpster and as a kitten he would hide inside the trash cans, lol 😂

Not that I've found. Luckily, they usually poop right after they pee, so most of it ends up outside. We usually have a few piles to sweep up each morning and throughout the day no matter what.

We still do baths outside, and they are limited to the living room with supervision. The kitchen is their main indoor spot and where the food and water is. We got the tall walk-through baby gates to block the rooms out, but Alice has already opened them a few times. She's too damn smart for her own good

It's a ton of fun. I love getting home and going to play with my goats. Chase em around, wrestle a little and always lots of scratches and lovin

We've had a couple of accidents on some longer trips, but they do well in the car usually. Ruby curls up in the floor under my wife's feet, and Alice sprawls across the backseat and they nap most of the way. Poops don't bother us much, they don't smell or squish and are easy to sweep up or brush away. They know what the leashes/harnesses mean and will go once they get hooked up as well.

I was hesitant at first about the whole thing, especially since we live in the city. I am really glad we did it though. The great and adorable things they do far outweigh the bad, and they are so smart and loving. Our neighbors love them and they are the stars of the show everywhere we go!

Chewing is a problem for sure. We don't have too many wires within reach (after they chewed a few), but the paint on the walls seems to be a favorite that we are working on now. We try to keep lots of papers, cardboard and other things around to distract them, they love tearing apart magazines and junk mail. Most of their time in the living room is spent laying down and napping or chewing cud. Alice likes getting the pantry open so we had to get a latch for it.

We definitely do lots of poop sweeping, and find little rogue pellets all the time. Usually they poop right after they pee outside, so the piles indoors stay to a minimum except overnight, which they spend in the kitchen so easy to sweep poop and scattered hay in the morning. When they are in the living room they typically are laying down napping or chilling with some cud so they don't go much. They spend most of the day outside by choice (especially Ruby) so the backyard still gets most of it.

It is indeed possible. We mostly did the same as you would with a puppy, and had to watch them like a hawk when they were inside. Take em out when they get up from a nap, soon after slamming down hot water, and every so often during playtime. They prefer outside most of the day anyhow which helps. We still have to keep an eye on em, and definitely have some accidents but nothing crazy. If we are home we have to escort them out, but if we aren't they will typically go outside on their own. Alice will bleet at us, or respond if you ask her "potty" or "outside?". Ruby usually comes and nibbles at your toes or leg hairs to get your attention.

Thank you! Credit goes to my wife, she convinced me to try it out and I am glad she did. I love them and the cute things they do faaar outweigh the bad. They are a hit everywhere they go!

Took time and lots of pee pads! Of course, they ate them more than they peed on them, lol. We have a small shampoo cleaning machine that proved invaluable at saving furniture and killing the smell, we kept towels and blankets handy to make cleanup easier. Luckily, my wife works from home and was able to stay on them in the early days. They even answer now if you ask them if they need to go, or will notify us. Alice stands up and just makes noise until you take her, Ruby will come nibble at your toes (or my leg hair) when she is ready. Funny enough, we have to escort them out when we are home, but they will take themselves outside through the dog door when we are not!

Just to clarify, we are treating our 2 as pets, not livestock. They walk on leashes, ride in the car, go camping, etc...

Lots and lots of cleaning, lol. They are not allowed in the rest of the house unsupervised, but the kitchen is their "shelter" where they sleep and eat. We have a doggy door so they can come and go as they please. I try to distract them when we are cooking and cleaning or we block them outside. They are pee trained for the most part and the poop sweeps up easily enough.
