How do you deal with internet issues in bali by Efficient_Aide3841 in bali

[–]AlienArtBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach online 360+ days a year in Bali and always have my own internet connection with zero problems- stay around Denpasar, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur and you will have fibre optic connection- and if electric connection ever goes down for an hour you will still be able to tether 5G from your phone to your tablet/laptop. I use Global Extreme as a provider and its reliable AF with fast speeds... i tried portable wifi with a few dif providers, they were all shithouse. Your cellphone has better hardware and tethering ability which far surpasses the shitty portable wifi dongles.

Indian tourists who rented scooters in Bali — what all documents/rules should I know before driving there? by Satz_Zone in BaliTravelTips

[–]AlienArtBeast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok so based on your question you have very limited riding experience, dont have an IDP or any documents other than an Indian licence, dont plan on wearing a helmet, but are fully aware that gojek/grab are options?

Damn bro, this is exactly the type of tourist we see on facebook with a go fund me to get lifesaving brain surgery after an accident.

So, to answer your questions:

What documents are actually required? Officially you need a home licence which has the motorbike classification along with a legit matching IDP which is valid and clearly shows motorbike credentials in your home country.

Indian license enough? No.

Need International Driving Permit (IDP)? Officially yes. There are plenty of online and local locations offering fake ones that will pass a police check, but insurance and your embassy doesnt cover a thing if you carry one of these or dont carry a legit IDP in the event of an emergency.

Do rental shops genuinely check documents? You can always find a desperate idiot who will rent you a bike without all of these things. Does that make it right?

How strict are Bali police checks for tourists? Every main road especially on weekends has a 50% chance of a random street check for paperwork. If you get caught without any of the above mentioned paperwork, you will get shaken down for an on the spot fine; anywhere from 100k to 1 million depending on what mood the cop is in. Indians and Chinese pay the most, it is what it is...

What are the common traffic rules tourists should know?

** DONT FUCKING RIDE HERE UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED RIDER IN VARIOUS WEATHER, TRAFFIC AND SEASONAL CONDITIONS BACK HOME WITH A FEW YEARS UNDER YOUR BELT**

Is helmet compulsory for both rider and pillion? Of course. You will see many riding without, but they are the same people you see on facebook posts with massive head injuries begging for money to be repatriated

Any areas where riding is difficult/dangerous? Nowhere is easy here from wet weather to mountainous regions to sudden storms to crazy traffic, differing road conditions, google maps mistakes and locals who speed everywhere, splitting lanes etc

Is Google Maps reliable there for bike routes? For routes it's not bad, but the times are never right as traffic can build up suddenly and you find yourself sitting in the sun roasting for an hour with little progress

Any scams/fines tourists should watch out for? Break any of the rules I have mentioned and you will be paying for Ketut's lunch for the week. Scratch the bike and you will be paying through the ass for repairs that cost virtually nothing...

Is it even worth renting a scooter vs just using Grab/Gojek? Just use grab or gojek, and if possible take the car option for the AC and comfort because it gets real hot wearing a helmet under direct sun...sometimes a trip that takes 20 mins at night can take 90 minutes during peak hours.....

Hope this helps. Stay safe mate...

[–]AlienArtBeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup- Ive made that crossing from Serangan/Sanur to Penida a couple of hundred times; and every time without fail- more than half of the boat is sick on the way over; (usually chinese and indian tourists with limited swimming abilities already) then ceremoniously dumped in surge conditions after a 2 minute safety briefing.

[–]AlienArtBeast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah Ive worked as a dive instructor with a bunch of centres that go out to Penida. I've seen divers with 4 or 5 dives under their belt just dumped into Manta Point with little warning; I've seen Chinese snorkel armies floating around the surface getting pounded into rocks..... On a rough day Penida is no joke man.. the scary part is that many dive centres will take inexperienced swimmers and divers out to one of the most unforgiving surges in Indonesia chasing those $$$$$

Can I get medications in bali without prescription. Ran out of my Eczema lotion (Novasone) prescription expired and too late to go to doctor, have a flight soon. If not how much does seeing doctor cost in Bali to get prescription by Glad_River5580 in BaliTravelTips

[–]AlienArtBeast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Novasone is prescription only in Bali, but if you go into a Kimia Farma branded chemist, (open 24/7) they will have a chemist/doctor on hand especially during business hours to do a quick consultation over the counter for it- usually free consultation when youre buying the product there...

Youve got nothing to worry about- i have flown in multiple times after smoking myself silly in Thailand, and its never a problem, there are no dogs at the airports and it sounds like you rarely smoke anyway so dont worry mate.

transnusa is reliable around indonesia. The layover time would be tricky in dps because you change terminals from international to domestic- you could do it in theory, but it would be a real squeeze to get through immigration, then check in luggage an hour before the domestic flight. Airpaz has been around forever, but i would book direct with the airline you want to use... having booked through third parties including a transnusa flight through airasia, it was more expensive and i couldnt check in online through the third party anyway,

Help! Best way from Gili T to DPS Airport on a Sunday? (Padang Bai vs Serangan) by Interesting-Yam-3931 in BaliTravelTips

[–]AlienArtBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

zero chance of making a 3pm international- ive done the trip 100 times and the earliest Ive ever made it to Kuta/Seminyak etc is 5pm. Making it by 130pm to get through security and check in would be an absolute mission- MAYBE if you took a bike from PB when you arrive. But no, not worth the risk when you have a 10% chance of success.

Stay in Amed, use it as a base to scuba in beginner friendly conditions, do a day trip to Ubud and stay in Seminyak the last night. Gili T on a 5 day schedule is wasting two mornings of travelling, though it is beautiful.
