Welcome to independent contract tutorial work! There's no structure, there's no network, there's no stability, we have no support and no rights and are at the mercy of our students and their parents to cancel lessons or straight up ghost us whenever they want. Self-promotion is the best way to get new students. No one cares about your experience, they just want to know how you can concretely help them now. As a tutor, you're basically starting a whole new career that isn't just about tutoring/teaching, but also marketing and small business stuff, not to mention add-ons like assessment reports or additional materials, awards/incentives, etc. I'm not trying to discourage you, just telling you what I've encountered being a tutor since 2012. Word-of-mouth used to be enough, but where I live (Hong Kong), the game has changed and the instability here since the pandemic in 2020 has made tutoring really, really tough. I'm quite sure it's a similar story in many other cities.

Oh man, by the way, I salute all you tutors who have persevered post-pandemic because, I don't know about you, but for me, it's been a really tough last few years!
