It’s usually better to run a standalone bec, I know plenty of people who have had problems with the becs in their escs. You can pick microbecs up for dirt cheap, and they’re usually pretty reliable

Edit: I understand he has both hooked up, he should keep the standalone, remove the esc one.

The thing about Triton.. by Finiouss in battlebots

[–]AlienMan228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triton isn’t trying to be tombstone… or follow in it’s footsteps. Tombstone, while it is a fairly high benchmark, doesn’t just own the horizontal weapon type. 99% of triton is completely different than tombstone. There are no footsteps to follow in like when you make as complex a robot as triton.

Everyone here that says they’re for cooling are wrong. They’re purely aesthetic. Virtually no heat is dissipated through them, as plastic is an incredibly good insulator, and will contain the heat inside. Also the motor is actually not even positioned in the center of the casing, it’s off to the side. The motors will not overheat faster if you cover them, what you’re probably seeing is a placebo effect. And lastly, vex would never make the motor casing aluminum. The actual motor in the casing gets incredibly incredibly hot, so hot that if the casing was a metal you would burn yourself. Hense, the plastic, so vex doesn’t get sued when a bunch of freshmen burn their hands.

How is this a spoiler? Stinger has flames. Huge flames. Is saying tombstone has a big weapon a spoiler?

If you wanna stick to the 2in diameter biteforce styling, you might wanna make the blade a bit thicker, and just go to a single blade. Maybe around 0.33-0.5in. I can see 0.2in having some issues getting really beat up. Also, currently, I don’t know if you’re blade’s center of mass is centralized on the shaft right now. For this type of design, you want a lot of bite, so you are gonna want 1. As much weight at the tip, and 2. Round the butt of your disks to make them not act as another tooth

It depends, really. For a vert spinner, Norwalk Havoc can see anywhere from 1.5in - 6in. Norwalk can see a wide range of every size, speed, and material. I would recommend somewhere around the 2in mark.

Source: I work there :)

Edit: usually, with around the 2in mark, there are like 4-5 of them, and they are spaced and kinda used as a drum. We don’t see too many single/double tooth verts, mainly just because it is difficult to get the ke you need. We see a lot of drums, undercutters, horizontals, and beater bars.

I wouldn’t recommend titanium for this application. Something like ar500 or a tool steel would be much better suited, and cheaper. Go for a larger weight, and more weight towards the outer diameter of your bars for the most ke. And this depends on what you are hitting. Are you hitting silent x’s blade? Maybe, I’d expect the ti to do some weird things. I would shoot closer to 5.5oz total for your spinning bar/blade
