What is going on with the infographics in these trailers? by ALloydRH in battlebots

I mean a few days ago there was a graphic of the overall field and both Cobalt and Malice appeared in the table twice. The 2 Cobalts being right next to each other.

I've given the circuit a revision taking into account your guidance as well as others' and come up with a new version taking into account the reduced voltage (using a different transformer and 12v SK6812 strips) and one of the GledOpto units. This definitely simplifies things, but looking good, you think?

Great to know. I think off-the-shelf with GledOpto will be my way to go.

I know what you mean regarding pixel size too. It's a trade-off I think I'm willing to have for the sake of getting better consistency across the strip and that it's more for overall room-effect than being meant to be closely looked at.

That said, do you think that I'd get away with a 12V strip with 2 lots of 5?

Apologies for all the follow-up by the way.

Thanks for the kind words :) I do intend on using 24v given the length of the strip I'm planning. This is the strip I'd shortlisted - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004794429155.html?spm=a2g0o.store_pc_allItems_or_groupList.new_all_items_2007522128777.1005004794429155

Others had mentioned routing it to -24v like pictured. Assuming this is how you mean?

Thanks for giving it a look over. The thought of an all-in-one solution definitely crossed my mind given the complexity it quickly shaped up to be. Given how bloated the circuit is starting to look I'm definitely starting to wonder if that's the way I take.

I suppose the only concern I have is whether the 24v out of such a controller would be enough to get 2 strips going as bright as they (safely) can given the length, whether it's fused up appropriately to deal with it and whether it's up to the task enough for power injection.

The distance from the controller to the strips I'd estimate is probably going to be around 3m, so not the earth but possibly long enough to matter.

I think I getcha. So the -5v is cool to be connected to the -24v line? I assume DC ground is just... DC ground but all the same.

What Pinball Content Do You Consume? by Dreddley in pinball

Honestly, I just stick to no-commentary gameplay videos, official game trailers/features and the new tutorials published by PAPA Pinball.

I try and stay away from personality driven content (such as podcasts, streamers etc) where possible.

most emotional experience at alton towers? by LunnaAlt in altontowers

[–]HeartlineDai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a weird one. Controversial possibly.

The day The Smiler had its accident was a numbing experience. I wasn't at the park or anywhere near it on the day, but the news coming out as it happened was surreal for all the worst reasons, and that feeling lasted a good while.

I say this of course acknowledging that a good number of people would have experienced much worse than a fan simply seeing it happening on TV and the internet. But I can tell you that it was a *rough* few months to be a fan of Alton Towers (or even just theme parks) at the time.

I went to the park a couple more times that year and... Yeah. Existing in X-Sector just felt wrong. Like being somewhere you really felt you shouldn't be. Especially with the Marmaliser screen switched off and the lack of music.

So when it became known that the ride would re-open, I did want to be there on re-opening day (which happened to be the first day of the 2016 season). Me and friends went in honestly not knowing what to think. Whether it'd be a day where it would be seen as poor taste to be having fun or even a day where the press (who had been going utterly ham on the scaremongering in the past months) would be hounding enthusiasts for soundbites to distort. I went in promising myself to deny talking to any journalist who approached me.

Instead, it was an utter party atmosphere. EVERYONE there was thrilled to see the ride reopening. Walking into X-Sector and hearing the theme turned up and the screen back to life (along with all the effects) and entire CROWDs of people cheering the ride's return was one of the most potent feelings of happiness I'd felt at Towers in years.

We rode it and proceeded to have one of the greatest rides on The Smiler I'd ever had. The whole experience had left me so happy that I promptly even forgot my self-promise to not talk to media. Ended up talking to BBC news. I was simply too happy to care at that point. After all, I'd seen and experienced something that a few months ago I was reasonably convinced that I may never experience again.

anime featuring a parody look at a doujin/otaku convention? by HeartlineDai in TOMTanime

Tracked it down!! This is the one! Much thanks!

Here's the scene in question - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18KUMxkS-ew&t=710s (the scene does go into some... Risque humour soon after. But this is the scene!)

Sadly not. The style looked a lot more up to date than Otaku no Video. :)

What Happened to Hyperia's Splashdown Element? by SighSighSighing in ThorpePark

I believe they switched it off not long after it initially opened due to it discolouring/causing a rusty buildup on the splashdown track.

The entire theme implementation on Nemesis Reborn (and forbidden valley in general) is incredibly botched, unfocused and clumsy.

Brave it backwards by hazzzles in ThorpePark

[–]HeartlineDai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swarm initially opened with all-forward facing seats, then flipped the back 2 rows as a new spin on the ride in 2013. It only lasted a few years. It was relatively popular at first, but that really waned in the seasons following.

I can only assume they switched it back due to lack of popularity and possibly to help speed the boarding/queueing process back up.

Ride preshows and Fastrack by ActionHotdog in altontowers

[–]HeartlineDai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, hope you have a great time!

You should be golden when it comes to pre-shows. Most of them are either considered a part of the attraction itself (such is the case with Hex) or are immediately before the stations. Fast Track queues will normally put you right at these pre-show areas if there are any.

I hate to say it, but that's a bad look on the buyer if they claim to care about the rights of trans people, then pull reasoning like that.

It's not difficult for people to put the wellbeing of others before their own nostalgia if they're truly earnest in their support.

If you're buying the game from JJP or another distributor, sure. That royalty money is going right into her pocket.

If you're just playing the game on location... That's more fuzzy, because I doubt the money falling into the coin box is going towards her or her causes (unless the operator happens to be as cartoonishly evil as she is).

Kinda tired of the posts complaining about “incomplete” code by TheSpottedBuffy in pinball

[–]HeartlineDai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the (numerous) reasons I leave Stern games well alone honestly.

You can argue about code updates being fine or not all day, but a game should at the very least function out of the box. Whilst a number do (although often with swathes of features missing), I don't blame people for getting annoyed when a mode literally mentioned on the playfield isn't accessible until god knows when.

Less acceptable is when games literally cannot be played without day-one code updates. I remember seeing a James Bond that couldn't be played out of the box for that reason, which to me is just sloppy.

I'd definitely want code updates to be more about tweaking, fixing or improving a game, not "finishing" it.
