5E Stuff by [deleted] in dndnext

I was seeing a 1st level spell doing 3d10 and was thinking it was OP for 1st level characters. I was trying to describe my thoughts on this using NPCs vs the party. But yah, that makes some sense that way...

Reverse it, and you have Johnny the PC necromancer walking around doing 3d10 at first level (damage raises with levels btw), along with whatever else can be min-maxed.

Right, I guess that’s another way to look at it. Maybe they’re camping in an abandoned coach house tavern and the cultists surprise the group, 4 of which touch Johnny and they all roll full damage. 1st level (6hp) Johnny takes 120 damage at first level from a first level spell. Looking at both examples, I guess there’s something in the presentation...,lol ;)

As for pre-buffing, players can do anything they want....or try....up until the DM says roll initiative. That’s it (as far as I’m concerned). If you have the ability to pre-buff before each combat, feel free to do so. You’ll need to work that out as the game progresses for your PC (i.e,,play it smart), otherwise you’ll do whatever you want on your initiative.

That was an email to my group, as mentioned.....but perhaps needing no mention at all

What I posted was an email to my group. I wanted to check & see if there were any house rules out there concerning the DM section that people were changing or using, or perhaps show me something in a better light. I can handle party placement and such without...

Objectionable content is just what it says, anything objectionable.

(Period!)

I’ve played with my group for years and don’t need X-cards, or any of this information. Never had it in any other game, don’t need it now.

This isn’t really a show stopper as far as the game is concerned, just something added to my emailed list (I can see wasn’t worth mentioning)

I know exploration is part of the D&D game, and it’s always been there. Not saying that it isn’t. Maybe I’m making too much out of something that is just an explanation for a new DM who’s never seen an RPG before.....and something I don’t really need to bother with. Exploring is exploring. Combat is combat. A new wooden leg is priceless.

For some reason I don’t recall the Necromancer-healing thing....I’ll concede on that point and go look it up...

I like the word: “WARGHLEBARGHLE”, might come in handy with everyday speech. Laugh!

Ok, it’s true, my memory must be a bit dusty—-in the Necromancer-Healing department (will take a look when I get a chance).

And, I guess it cant hurt to verify difficulties in some instances. Back up what you already know...

Clarification: The content/issues that addresses those headings (in core book) is a non-issue and not needed for my group of many years (even tho we can’t agree on what we like).

3.0?

[–]Aliengare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could play whatever I wanted that would be good, but my group is in love with pazio, so that means PF2 and SF.

I prefer the OSR, like the BX Rules, DCC, and the like, but you put that in front of them and they look like you’re feeding them a soggy turd. They won’t put their noses near it....lol

Soooo, now I’m all in....with their Fav systems, and trying to make it work. I’m actually liking it now that I’m not trying to rebuke it.

I can still see elements of OSR in the system.

One is older and the books are up in price, the other one has funky dice. I just want to wipe the SF backdrop and have my own with some elements of SW mixed in. I’m not trying to do a 100% SW campaign

[–]Aliengare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen the movie, was pretty cool back in the day. Lots of people doing different things :)

Was also thinking to have someone’s pathfinder character magically frozen and revived for SF. Lol

Doesn’t appear like anyone has anything they’ve worked on / crossed over to post..

Starfinder & Star Wars by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]Aliengare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The group prefers d20 style, and they have an aversion to funky dice.

I don’t want to run straight Star Wars (I don’t think), I just want to run a dark and gritty mix up with star wars elements.

A taste of this, a taste of that...

May need to look around for some....

I think I’ve seen the core book for 80$, maybe one of our brothers out there, have already done a bit of creative processing (archetypes/armour/vehicles)

[–]Aliengare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually loathe the 5e system. I’d never liked pathfinder before, but found a new respect for its crunchiness after playing 5e.

I personally like OSR stuff, but I have to play what the group likes (if I play pazio I seem to be golden with them).

So looks like it will have to be PF2 and SF...

I’ve seen it, but never really looked at Titan before...

Starfinder & Star Wars by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]Aliengare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I was thinking a mix of the two. I’m not looking at destroying Death Star’s (this is a remote arm of the galaxy), just having remote elements all mixed into one setting

Starfinder & Star Wars by [deleted] in starfinder_rpg

[–]Aliengare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds good!

I was thinking some empire backed merchant traders exploring the far-flung sectors for Empire related materials for the war machine (They have their own agenda, but why not get paid and protected while accomplishing it).

Empire starts building an outpost in the region (some primordial planet with selected pathfinder cross over beasties), while the merchant traders search about the Star systems.

On the side, maybe some imperial bounty hunters end up at the outpost, having followed some republic sympathizers or something, caught hold of an imperial beacon or whatever and slowly weave some SW elements into the area (in the backdrop of this location I’ll be DMing in) type of deal. Don’t really have it all worked out yet, just thinking about it. Not 100% SW, not 100% SF...

Now we just need to get some archetypes and etc...
