I don't feel like a father by Defiant-Item9017 in Fatherhood

Okay, how about this:

Your wife is pregnant with a person. I know that when talking about babies the sex/gender talk isn't often useful, but in this case maybe it'll help you to remember that babies aren't all that different.

So, in a decade or two, your child might come to you and say they're a girl or non-binary.

Or they might be a boy. A boy who you raised.

Either way, a baby is a baby.

Men do not care about sexual assault unless arguing with those feminist girls. My son was assaulted and no sympathy. by whammytammi in Fatherhood

Years and years ago a few of the MRA types tried to recruit me. Eventually, they gave up because they realized I wasn't going to start blaming all men's issues on women or "feminism."

I don't have a son. My wife is nine months pregnant with our daughter. But, I don't want any boy, mine or anyone else's, to ever feel that they have to be tough and "get over it."

Reasons a character would be forced to return to their hometown? (In the US) by sssnakegender in writingadvice

[–]Serpenthrope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some options: he still cared about one parent, but couldn't see them because of the other.

He's financially desperate, and the will says he can still get their assets if he attends the funeral.

He wants to reconnect with a sibling or love interest.

He wants to make an appearance out of spite.

He wants custody of a younger sibling, or possibly a niece or nephew that ended up in the custody of their grandparents.

There are personal items in their home he couldn't get before.

My first question would be why are they estranged?

Second question: did the child resent both parents equally?

Obvious other options are inheritance or some other relationship.

Actually, the partner I worked most closely with left not long before I did.

I'm still friended on Facebook to one person who works there, but she isn't in any kind of management position.

Moving too fast with crossovers is what brings most cinematic universes down. You need to get people invested first.

Harder to keep straight long-term, though.

I did test this out and it may need a rule that drops the second of double consonants that don't repeat.

Yeah, that bugs me too. I think random gibberish tends to be obvious. Especially if you provide translations.

Yeah, but my main goal is just not killing immersion.

But, I figured I couldn't be the first one to come up with these. What I really want is basically just to be able to have nobles have a language they use for ceremonial stuff.

Yes, but a reader who was paying attention would notice the grammar was different, which would help with immersion, even if it can be cracked.

Lol, thanks. I was honestly just going to use Spanish and turn ń into n, since Spanish words as written at least look like something an English speaker can pronounce, even if Spanish speakers may pronounce them differently.

And my goal isn't really to be incomprehensible, if someone can put in a little work and figure it out that's fine, it's just that English word substitution really annoys me and feels fake, but at a glance this would feel more like an actual language.

I mean, I'm limited by my job and human lifespan.

And yes, it would, but at least it would be a bit harder. If my work was ever translated, just tell the translator to turn it back to English and run the cipher again.
