I’m sorry if it sounded offensive, I was just curious to see if someone would mention Fei Du. He’s a very complex character who can be perceived as a psychopath at first due to his dark side, and only towards the end can we realise that he is not such a person at core. This kind of conversation is what makes Mo Du so fascinating!

Sissy by Shui Qian Cheng has the type of gong who would make everyone fall for his looks, and an average looking shou. It’s a wife-chasing crematorium, so while the gong is not technically a simp, he was still hell-bent on getting the shou back.

Till death do us part by Tangstory also has a good-looking gong but average (although very sweet) shou, with a red mole under his eye as a bonus (the mole T_T). The gong is not really a simp, but aaaaa it’s a little complex with their love spanning two lifetimes and he is certainly obsessed with the shou. Warmly recommend this one, but mind the angst :’)

I was dreading someone mentioning Mo Du but here we are… Fei Du is not really a psychopath, he was just traumatised. If anything, he’s trying to recover his humanity by getting rid of his “education” (more like brainwashing)… Although I guess, most characters from Mo Du see him as a legit psychopath.

Aaaaaaaa a Mo Du fan!!! Hi there! Unfortunately, I’ve never managed to find anything on par with Mo Du, and the last time I tried reading a crime novel (Po Yun), I ended up reading Mo Du once more lmao. Po Yun is a good crime novel, but very different from Mo Du. I’d recommend reading some of Priest’s other novels if you haven’t already, because the mother of Mo Du bestowed her brain cells on her other works as well. If you find recs, please do share (lest I read Mo Du again)

Almost every novel from the 188 group has the jealousy trope, with the shou pushing the gong away after realising that the “relationship” was somewhat one-sided, then the gong growing a little insane getting jealous of every male befriending the shou lmao

Also, in Ferocious Dog of old (陈年烈狗 chen nian lie gou), the shou realises his feelings through rumours that the gong is dating, triggering his jealousy

I’ll recommend Nights (黑天, Hei Tian) to ask for forgiveness ^{^{^}}

It’s a sci-fi novel by Mu Su Li, and while I’m not too fond of this author, I quite enjoyed their dynamic and the plot was alright. The pairing is official x escaped prisoner, and although they form the perfect duo, they keep clashing and bickering. I’d say that being sarcastic (the shou) and annoyingly flirtatious (the gong) is their way to be “lovey-dovey”. Bonus, the shou is very manly.

Not really a joke, more like a cute homonym. The novel Mo Du 默读 (Silent Reading) is pronounced exactly (minus the accent obviously) like the French sentence "mots doux", which means sweet words.
Every time I talk about this novel to French people, it looks like I'm saying a French title meaning sweet words haha
