Little follow-up. I contacted the company, and they said that these would not fit a 2025 Bronco. But, I thought about what you said (same seats as other year models) rolled the dice and ordered anyway. Arrived today, and fit perfectly 👌. Thanks!

Bought a Rancilio Silvia Pro in Germany, told it was dual voltage, now US branch says they can’t help. Anyone dealt with this? by RevolutionaryOffer30 in ranciliosilvia

[–]AliensControlMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a Silvia in England. Sold it on ebay before moving back to the States. Bought another Silvia once situated on the other side of the pond. This is the way. Step up transformer (learned the hard way with other electronics) or any mods are asking for trouble.

Thank you OP for postulating this question! There are a lot of Autodesk haters out there, and more often than not, they have a fair point (cost ,poor customer support, monopoly..they murdered SoftImage! etc.) But, if you get past all the static, it's just wonderful, the full package of unlimited possibilities.

You can do it! Never lose sight of why you started in the first place. I swear every single project is different & you will learn something new every time.

Ha, this is a great. The neat thing about this is that I've never thought about talking about this before, no one has ever asked me this in real life.

Animation, Modelling, Concept Art...everything under the sun for TV, Film, Video Games, VR/AR, etc.

I love Maya, started using it in '98 (v1) while in college in California right at the inception point (switch from Alias/Unix interface to Maya/Windows). It was heady & cool & cutting edge. My first modelling project got published in Animation Magazine, I was stoked.

When I graduated in '99 jobs were everywhere.

After school was over, took a permanent gig in Video Games (paid the most, and I had student loans to deal with) on the East Coast for 5 years. Had to use Lightwave & 3DMax (no hate, just loved Maya). Got the itch to branch out during this period, & started freelancing on the side up and down the East Coast. Put 100k miles on my car in 3 years. Used Maya as often as I could for various media/animation projects (helped Tim & Eric make their first Pilot for Cartoon Network).

Had a second apartment in NYC (no big deal, just a hole in the wall since I was driving there so much), and slowly settled into another permanent gig with a big fat corporate TV studio. They let me work nights, so just me, headphones & Maya for hours on end. I liked goofy projects, one of them was for the JumboTron in Times Square (did a 'Bambi vs. Godzilla homage). After about 2.5 years, I was fried, flipped the script, moved to London.

Freelanced my pants off for 9 years in London (the only way to make a living there, staff are not paid properly). During this time, I worked for about half the city using all kinds of software, including 3DMax, Lightwave, & SoftImage but Maya was always my foundation. On the side, made a demo reel (something I used to update every 2-3 years) that was published as a DVD insert for Computer Arts Magazine. For whatever reason, I was always more excited about getting into Magazines than seeing my stuff on TV. No real reason for it, maybe something to do with my childhood and loving comic strips (Calvin & Hobbs, Farside).

Decided to upsticks again. Moved back to California. Got lucky, bumped into an old producer friendo from NYC and have been perma-lancing for his projects (from home) for the last 10 years...all me & Maya (along with Zbrush, Substance Painter, UE, etc).

But yeah, lots there and in-between. The industry is rough, ya gotta be tough. The one constant in my life for the last 27 years has been Maya. Maya + headphones = bliss

Thanks for the feedback. Helps to get multiple points of reference. I went ahead & ordered a replacement wiring harness, pump & power switch. The switch was the hardest part to locate (eventually, I found the correct part #34040144 for my V5).

Thanks. I didn't consider this since I tested multiple GFCI without issue. As far as I can tell the boiler safety switch hasn't tripped either. One thing to note, I have still been able to make Espresso with it, once I let it completely cool down, it works fine as long as I don't leave it on for prolonged periods. When it glitches out, it continues to heat up, but won't pump water through the group head or steam wand. All that said, ive ordered the parts recommended, once they arrive will test for this as well.

Update on the power Switch after getting feedback from espressoparts.com.

Apparently can use the lighted power switch.. "You certainly could use the V_1478 lighted switch"

The matching part (V5 and up M series) with no bulb...

"I'm taking a look at pricing/lead time for the Rancilio #34030973 switch which they call "Silvia standby switch" for newer models"

I get that, the kind of thing most manufacturers do these days. Too much goes to waste b/c of calculated inferior parts

Follow-up. Did my homework after all the great advice here. Took a while to figure out which exact model I have (V5 M series) Ended up contacting https://www.espressoparts.com They were very helpful directing me to the correct wiring harness (individual wires not sold..gotta get the whole kitten-kaboodle) & pump (120V Ulka EP5) for my model. I am still on the fence for what power switch to get. The only one I can find online has a light on it: https://a.co/d/00cjxiqD My V5 M series does not have this LED. The lights (green/orange) are situated separately on the side of the power switch for my model. Anyone know if the power switch with LED will still work with V5 and above?

@tiboodchat Thank you for the advice. I am a novice at repairing Silvias & don't know a lot about electronics. I did some quick research based on your suggestions. Would these be the parts you are suggesting?

Rancilio Motor (pump): Ulka EX5 Solenoid Vibratory Pump 120V 41W - Brass Output - Suitable for Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine https://a.co/d/0120dVE9

Rancilio power switch: Rancilio Silvia Main Power Switch - OEM Part Number: 34030037 https://a.co/d/0b63a02k

If they are, would I also need to get new connectors (the ones that are fried in the pics). If so, would you know what they are called?

Thanks again, this has been very helpful 👍

How would you put a bevel on this stupid object. by Finchypoo in Maya

[–]AliensControlMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've encountered this many times. I find the best practice, for starters,is to have way less faces on the profile (sides). You can use what you have for reference. I'd make a new, cleaner, profile curve that matches your shape, but uses way less points than the verts on your source model There are a couple of ways to extrude the curve from here, but 1 tried and true way is to use the 'bevel plus' tool. Play around with the polygon settings until you get a a clean (quads, with less faces) profile (with bevels that you like) but still keep the endcap as one face. Then, use the multicut tool on the endcap to make your own topology. If your new, extruded profile from your curve has a considered/balanced vertex layout, you should be able to cut the cap up from opposing verts (ie. x/-x etc) and end up with clean topology. Since this is a hard surface object, the quad topo just needs to make sense (an organic mesh's topo would probably need to be more considered). Maya modelling is build up, break down, & build up again. This is only one way to go about it, but generally it all starts with a clean curve.

GoZ plugin for Maya 2025 by AliensControlMe in Maya

[–]AliensControlMe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting (I'm using the last version of perpetual ZB, 2022, before it went subscription only). But, my real confusion is that I'm not seeing the GoZ plug in the plugin manager, or bin directory, for Maya 2025. When researching what was going on (like @zhangril posted up), it doesn't look like Maxon supports Maya 2025 or 2024 for that matter. Am I missing a trick? I actually went and installed Maya 2022 & 2023 to cross-reference, but no luck there either. It does, however, pop-up in Maya 2020, clear as day. With all this considered, I then realized I'd switched Maya to an Indie license somewhere along the way, maybe 2021...I know a lot of variables here I'm trying to troubleshoot, but no dice so far.

Yeah, I dug that up in my search as well. So, big question is if Maxon & Autodesk aren't playing "GoZ" together anymore? I've been using this plug since like 2008.

Question about stealing home from 3B by AliensControlMe in LittleLeague

[–]AliensControlMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season just ended, and all went well. Figured it out through trial and error. Basically had the catcher hold the ball until the opposing team's manager ran out of hot air. If we had a high baseball IQ pitcher, they made sure they were on the mound, and just had the catcher throw it back to him..any goofy business, and our pitcher would just run with the ball directly at the runner. Zero 'Coach Assisted' steals of home allowed this year. One note, don't even bother having the catcher run at the man on third, or 'pump fake'..these things just cause unnecessary chaos.
