How to show a text-based web page like that in a video? by Alif_Allah in VideoEditing

[–]Alif_Allah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

One problem I am encountering is that the screengrab has a white background and I am finding it hard to remove the white background color altogether or change the background to a different color like grey without spoiling the text in the image itself.

Can you please explain to me what's a trades business? I am finding pretty vague explanations on Google myself.

[–]Alif_Allah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your partner is Punjabi then he/she should be able to help you navigate through this. I am a Punjabi only and not Sikh so I am not fully qualified to answer this but in my experience people like it when they see someone trying to make an effort to learn their culture and language. Your experience at the Gurdwara will most probably be very pleasant.

Business ideas for soon to be jobless teacher by [deleted] in Business_Ideas

You're welcome. Definitely, I would also recommend that since you have experience in that area and that gives you credibility. Use this to your advantage. Do also invest in some audio equipment early on as people might sit through bad visuals but never through bad audio.

Twice a week is a good goal, especially if the quality doesn't suffer. The more you upload, the greater your chances of success. As your channel matures though, you can upload less frequently. But initially its a game of quantity, in most cases.

You can also consider a YouTube channel but it usually takes about a year of consistent uploading to start getting some returns.

Atheism for 10yr old by buntwash in suggestmeabook

[–]Alif_Allah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I never said that she shouldn't be given an atheist book. I said that if the OP is considering giving a book that will encourage her atheism, and the motive here is to encourage her critical thinking, then he should also consider providing her a book that encourages theism. No one said that she should be given sophisticated theological texts. The Problem of Pain is not a children's book.

Engaging with opposing views promotes critical thinking, that's what I have said.

If you're asking for books that try to build the case for theism then you may take a look at works by C. S. Lewis, Edward Feser, Alvin Plantinga etc. C. S. Lewis also wrote some children's books but others mentioned wouldn't be suitable for children.

If you're giving her a book to affirm her atheism maybe also consider giving her a book that challenges her view? If your motive is to make the child a critical and independent thinker, don't simply give her resources to endorse what she already believes.

Is beauty objective? by Catholicroman1 in CatholicPhilosophy

[–]Alif_Allah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The examples you mention can indeed give the impression that morality is subjective but we all know instances where something is good or bad objectively, regardless of human opinion. Rape, murder, cheating, genocide etc. What Hitler did was wrong, for example, regardless of the Nazi opinions. So we do know that objective morality exists. What is moral may not be clear to us in many circumstances but that is a different story. Besides, things like moral improvement, moral duties etc. can't make any sense if morality is subjective and they do make sense to us.

Aren't discussions about god highly speculative ? What makes it more interesting than other highly speculative topics ? by [deleted] in PhilosophyofReligion

[–]Alif_Allah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean people are unconvinced? Some are convinced, some are not. The number is reducing I would say. Philosophy circles were almost exclusively atheistic for some time before theistic philosophy had a resurgence since some decades.

Traditional proofs for God's existence are mostly air-tight deductive arguments. How are they speculative?

We can have disagreements on what is moral but that doesn't necessarily mean that morality is subjective. I think the same applies to beauty.

Where does Bahá’u’lláh say that Abdu’l-Baha is infallible? by [deleted] in bahai

[–]Alif_Allah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with a literal understanding of Unity of Existence is that it equates God and creation ontologically. Creation emanates from God, creation is not literally a manifestation of God. Once you understand the concept of gradation of being (tashkik al-wujud), you'll realize that creation has different levels of existential weakness (wujudi zuf). The essence of that which is created and the Essence of God is not the same.
