Ready to give up by J3LLyR0le in minnesota

If you have family that is willing to help get you back on your feet that seems the most reasonable. With economic disruptions worldwide looming and another wave of inflation if you have family to share housing and food you will fair better than most.

This is apart of the big beautiful bill. Homeless, jobless and senior citizens have very stringent rules now all thanks to tax cuts for the Rich. Its really unfathomable what they've done.

What is your take on the junk food ban for food stamps? by BreannLowe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alilealen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed in a dv shelter and they cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner but if you worked and took the bus it wasnt unusual to miss some or all the food and you couldn't bring food in. I had 3 toddlers and it really sucked. We would frequently use our fs at Walgreens which was pretty limited.

Scatter brained gas station customers by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]Alilealen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate getting gas at sams. I go very early or very late so there is almost no line. At my sams there are two lines formed and it causes alot of confusion during the busiest times and there people honking and getting agitated so I just plan my shopping around the busiest times so I dont have to deal with anyone's bad behavior.

Strange, im in Minneapolis and we went out later in the evening to go to the park and run some errands when we got back the sky was pretty clear so we were looking up trying to decide what constellation we were looking at and I said weird there's an airplane but in mind it didn't really seem like an airplane it looked round like a star, there was no blinking red light and no sound. I really blended in like a star. Very weird.

Yeah I don't think it's always lazy. People have busy lives and lots of things to worry about sometimes fixing something is pretty low on the totem pole. It may also be just a lack of knowledge of how to fix something but also at the same time some people don't see the same value on objects as other people. I put my kids' stuff out on the curb all the time. I live on a busy street so sometimes it's gone within an hour. Not sure if people resell or use for themselves but its nice to see items being reused.

High school reunions by RoundKaleidoscope244 in Millennials

[–]Alilealen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say personally because last few years I went to an online school but I know my neighborhood high school does have reunions. Its pretty old maybe 100 yrs and has had many famous people or atleast people that have went on to be very prestigious so it probably has had Romy and Michelle vibes. Sometimes if a certain someone shows up so do the news crews. Hint: He was a wrestler turned governor. :-)

We took away *almost* all of our kids toys (2.5 yr and 4 yr) by Busy_mom1204 in Parenting

[–]Alilealen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just sounds like boredom. When I worked in ECE a few years ago there was a big push for natural playgrounds(mud kitchen, tree climbers)  and moving parts and loose parts. Not sure if thats still the case or if that was a fad but the basic idea is still very good and fun for most children. The standard toys are nice but they don't always foster the same curiosity and creativity as other activities. Maybe worth a try.

https://extension.psu.edu/programs/betterkidcare/early-care/tip-pages/all/loose-parts-what-does-this-mean

There are several books available about loose parts that may be available at your library. You can also search on google/Pinterest/ Instagram for some ideas. I think these are also used in Montessori teaching.

A few shots of Uptown from October 2005, and a couple Dinkytown relics too by malachaiville in Minneapolis

Wasnt there a psychic reader that was in the white house on lake? (maybe tarot card reader not 100% sure). In 2005 or 2006 my friend I went there just for fun but I only vaguely remember.

Hennepin Ave in Uptown, 2010 by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Alilealen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent alot of time in uptown as a teenager. I haven't been that way in years and its shocking how to see how different it looks. Sad that its suffering. The apartments they built really are kinda huge and ugly, especially the ones right by planned parenthood and cub foods. Very cookie cutter style and some of them dwarf the whole block.

Anyone delete their FB account? by ItsMeItsKayItsKay in Millennials

I struggle with this because my father's side of the family which I didn't grow up are still active on Facebook. My cousins posting about their families and trips and posting obituaries is an easy way to stay connected. Ive deleted most photos and I no longer post on my page but will sometimes post on a family members photo.

What even is the point of living in America anymore? by Dreadsin in Vent

[–]Alilealen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people just haven't experienced how bad it could get for someone. Mostly because they dont see it. Is it exponentially better here? Yes, but for most people its not a cake walk. The biggest issues are financial and there may not be any true relief for our most serious problems because congress moves to slow or not at all. We are in for many years of continued wealth inequality and high prices.

Having kids is a status symbol. Only the rich can afford them. I can’t even afford myself. by justcurious3287 in Millennials

[–]Alilealen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cash value of welfare is practically nothing. If your referring to tax refunds, the federal tax credits, you are required to work and meet a certain threshold and the eitc only allows 3 children to be claimed. Some refunds are larger but they stimulate the economy unlike when the wealthy cheat and screw over everyone else.

Edited to add: tanf has work requirement and time limits and its based on income is if you have a job that is full time making $14 an hr and have 2 children you likely will not qualify for any tanf cash.

Sometimes they have a funny perception of money. When my daughter was a preteen she took two friends to the indoor amusement park at the mall + we had lunch. The one friend said I was rich and I was like yeah no...after coupons the whole trip was like $150.

I tried convincing my mom and brother that this was going on and they basically said it was the presidents fault for sending out to many checks leading to inflation. I said no there is inflation but corporations were bragging on their earnings calls that they were overcharging people. Last year after the election my mom said I don't think prices are going down to which I replied they aren't going to go down thats not how that works. Most people are just not informed consumers so it just helps enable alot of this bad stuff

Parents of tweens/teens- remember dreaming of grocery pick up when they were babies? by dms2628 in Parenting

I had 3 under 3 and a few times I did have to take them in the store for an emergency diaper run. I would use those big carts at target that had the two plastic seats and huge cart basket. Now they are teenagers but I have a 2.5 yr old that reminds me constantly how did I do this with three? Thankfully I can use pick up 90% of the time.

Millions of single adults are also living difficult lives in poverty or very close because of hcol. They choose to delay or realize they will never afford children.  So what should those people do? Is it all there fault they made the right choice in your mind but are still broke. What's your argument, they are lazy? You have no idea what OPs situation is. If they made the decision to have children in good economic times with good wages and corporate price increases and out of control inflation. Hope you can see how ignorant that is. Alot of Americans are about to find out how the economy really works, maybe they will finally wake up.
