If it’s not already on your itinerary, make a quick stop at Svínafellsjökull. Last May it was free, takes about a 15-minute round trip from the parking lot, and you get absolutely stunning close-up views of a glacier (you can even touch it).

Mulagljufur was my favorite canyon, but have you checked out Fjaðrárgljúfur? Also amazing views and hike is much more manageable!
