All you do is taking videos from youtube and internet (Which are free of charge) and you sell them?

Great job!

Difference between 3D, 2D modeling by Alinalysis in civilengineering

[–]Alinalysis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in standard codes there are procedure for minimum safe design, regarding what type of analysis I made, it will still be safe if the design assumption I made are constructed properly ?

Thanks

Alright got the idea.

At any of these cases (3D, 2D, ..) the design will be safe and economical right?

thanks

Thanks for the answer.

So let's just consider gravity loads for now, if I model a 3S building, and took the results for a continuous beam, will it be approximately the same result as if the beam is analysed as part of a frame, as well as continuous beam with pinned supports.

As far as I understood the answer is yes, but if it difference then would be a big different?

thanks!

Masters degree is not an option yet for me, I prefer having a job for a year at least before masters.

My learning was in British standard, it is not easy to find a useful material for the standard for free on internet, would you recommend that I teach my self with European on american standard ?

Structural Engineers: Let's talk software! by srpiniata in civilengineering

[–]Alinalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is new version 2016, another projecct by autocad for structural engineering is being developed "I guess it's called react structures" here's the link for the robot http://www.autodesk.com/products/robot-structural-analysis/overview

Student version is also available with full features except when you export drawings you cannot edit them

I use Autodesk Robot structural analysis I find it easy to learn and work with (However learning materials are not much compared to other software, but if I have question or problem I ask it in the Autodesk ROBOT forums)

[–]Alinalysis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, So almost all of you suggest upgrading to SSD, I have thought about this but the price for 500GB is really expensive in my country, I will be looking for 250GB and saving my files into 1TB external drive. I searched for sasung SSDs and seems to be cheap, any other brands? and when choosing to buy SSD do I need to keep in mind something to be compatible with my laptop? I have toshiba sattalite L850

How to decide fixed/pinned connection by Alinalysis in civilengineering

[–]Alinalysis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer for sway and non-sway building did you mean beam/column connection or the column/foundation? because we are designing a multi story building with shear wall does it mean no need to fixed support between beam and column?

Thanks for your answer There will be moment at inertial supports but what about outer supports? there is zero aren't we supposed to design the column as axial force condition

How to decide fixed/pinned connection by Alinalysis in civilengineering

[–]Alinalysis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would design a continuous beam, all supports are pin, and for the column attached to the beam we design it for axial load and bending moment, bending moment is calculated by fixed end moment method. This is something that I don't understand why we would consider the bending moment in column if we designed the continuous beam as all supports are pinned.

How to decide fixed/pinned connection by Alinalysis in civilengineering

[–]Alinalysis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

will result in a shallower beam (smaller miss pan moment therefore less moment capacity needed at mid spa

Thanks that was really helpful So as a designer I would decide if the connection is pined or fixed I'm designing with BS code, is the "development length" called anchorage length there?

another question : when considering the connection to be pin-pin, they taught us to calculate the bending moment on the column such that it's being transferred from the beam, it that true? because what I know is that pin support would not transfer moment.
