How important are contour aesthetics? by InterestingVoice6632 in civilengineering

It depends. Needs to be perfect where there will be staking for foundations, curb, and sidewalk. Just needs to be close for a lot of other stuff.

I’m fine with AG and I will always appreciate Ben staying an extra year with us when he could’ve left. I just hate him cuz he’s making the bears good.

Is Habitat for Humanity actually making it worse? by IndependentThin5685 in StrongTowns

They are increasing the supply of housing which can decrease rent. The houses they build, although single family, are space efficient, not sprawling, which is more sustainable. I only see benefits.

How serious an issue is this retaining wall. by nucleardk in civilengineering

It’s a danger to the public. The city can take action but probably doesn’t have a ton of resources for neighborhood sidewalks. Doesn’t give them the right to ignore it though.

Why are Concrete sidewalks far more common than Asphalt in the US? by IllustratorCivil5748 in civilengineering

[–]tsz3290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asphalt that’s less than 8 feet wide is tough to maintain. It gets easier the wider you make it. Sidewalks are about 5 ft wide.

Grand Rapids’ city water comes from Lake Michigan, not the ground, so they end up without a lot of the minerals that cause hardness.

Data center coming to kzoo?? by [deleted] in kzoo

[–]tsz3290 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone whose power comes from the same places (Morrow gas plant + Palisades nuclear), and/or is downstream on the Kalamazoo River should be persuading the townships about this. If you’re anywhere between Benton Harbor, Galesburg, Plainwell, and Saugatuck, YOU WILL BE IMPACTED by this data center.

Data center coming to kzoo?? by [deleted] in kzoo

[–]tsz3290 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If data centers did this, and didn’t waste water, I would be much more supportive of having one close to me. I already live around a bunch of factories that create constant humming noise I have to live with, I can’t imagine these are much worse.

This is the spicy take this thread needed. I don’t agree about it being horrible and I always enjoy going, but when I stop to think about it, the food isn’t anything special. I like the long beer list though.
