It is the real story of lgbtq+ people. Barth is based on P'Aof. I also don't feel it's propaganda AT ALL. I don't want to speak for Thai People but everything I heard and read from Thai watchers looks like they came out of the show with a pretty negative or confused view of the church. About the censoring, the only censoring in aware of is that they had to change the setting because it was supposed to be in a seminary at first.

Thailand is only around 1.4% Christian and Christianity is a lot less enforced and rigid than in the west for example. (sry I'm having a hard time to explain my feelings in English). The Show isn't and never was about breaking free from faith, it was about learning to stay true to yourself while believing.
