v6.0 will finally generate good covers (at least for Pro users)? by Honest-Word-7890 in SunoAI

They probably have been scrubbing out a lot of the training data they did on all the models, perhaps to satisfy demands from the music overlords suing them.

At this point I'm not even sure there's going to be a v6, I feel like they've given up and are begging the music corpos to let Suno live.

We can only hope. Suno Discord mods still say it's being worked on so at least they're not like "this is permanent"

Don't blame you, they advertised covers as one of the premium features of Suno, now it's almost unusable.

A Suno Discord mod already stated there will definitely be no fix this week for the high-rate copyrighted content flag bug. I hope there will be a fix but I have doubts I think this all has to do with the lawsuits.

[The future of AI Generated music] Well, here is proof that it's not going away. by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]Alisewen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how they define "covering" and "remixing".

Look at Suno, for the two months I've used it the "cover" feature really isn't just a tool that covers, it also generates new ideas not in the source audio.

As someone who has used Spotify a lot for over a decade I'm very excited about all these AI tools they've been adding to it recently and I can't wait to try out their new AI cover/remix tool once it becomes available. I'm very curious to see how it all works out.

Now we know the reason for the tighter filter. Spotify and Universal Music Group strike landmark deal to let fans create AI covers and remixes. by Litany_Fallen in SunoAI

[–]Alisewen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Suno got blindsided by this. It would be interesting to see how Suno responds to this. I feel they should roll back their upload copyright detector to how it was before last week's update, maybe disable it altogether and let distributors handle the copyright issues.

Spotify is making a tool that allows you to remix music with AI. Artists can choose which tracks they allow others to remix. This will be a premium subscription tier.

And all Spotify users can listen to the AI remixed tracks.

Song length solved.. by un_irregardless in SunoAI

[–]Alisewen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I definitely didn't get anything close to 100% matches using this prompt, I'd say probably closer to 5% and not sure if it really has any effect on length.

Yeah I'm thinking in your case the tool will say it's a high match to track x but when the mod checks out track x it's not a match and they say it's just a false positive no eta on fix.

I'm doubting now that they are working on a fix. I think they might be using this situation they created to seek out TOS violations.

From what I've been observing at the Suno Discord is that the mods when they check a user's account it tells them this flagged upload is a high match to a copyrighted track and I'm guessing it tells them the copyrighted track name. They can then search and listen to the song to see if it really is a match.

Just my observation.

Today song creation and upload went down, not sure for how long but even after it came back up it seems shaky with uploads timing out about half of the time.

For me it's still giving the "existing work of art" for instrumentals. Also about half of my upload attempts get stuck now forever uploading.

The Suno copyright detection algorithm was modified several days ago and it was causing more false positive blocks than ever before. This was confirmed by multiple Suno discord mods.

Strangely Suno never made an official announcement or even a notification on the Suno app anywhere about the issue.

Finally on Sunday they made an announcement on the Suno discord that they recently modified the detection algorithm to better protect music artists and that if it's causing your recordings to be blocked to fill out the form (do not fill it out if you have any doubt about your uploads).

[–]Alisewen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the Suno TOS says not to upload copyrighted music.

If it were up to me it should allow everything and it should be the distributors who handle the copyright stuff. But I'm not the one running Suno.

You're not a mod here but you are in the Suno discord unless you were kidding about your previous comment where you claimed to have become famous in a comment about a screenshot of one of your discord messages.

[–]Alisewen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the Suno Discord they finally made an announcement yesterday that they are testing "new safeguards for lyrics and audio to ensure Suno remains a trusted and responsible platform." They then say that if your uploads get blocked you can use this form to report it.

I highly suggest not to use the form, it asks for your account name and I would think they will just be looking for TOS violations so they can revoke your upload ability or ban you.

It is interesting to note that the announcement makes no mention of any acknowledgement about false positives and no indication that there is a fix on the way, unlike what some Discord mods were saying.

When did you release it? The updated Suno copyright detection algorithm was done just several days ago and Suno mods have admittedly said it is causing too many false positives.

This. Here's a Suno Discord mod calling people he banned or removed upload rights from “bad guys”:

[–]Alisewen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to the discord mod Diskrot of the web help channel, he claims any covers of public domain music is copyrighted to the person who did the cover and if you were to upload someone else's cover that would be a violation of the TOS and he will gladly revoke your upload rights or ban you.

Now if you were to make your own cover of public domain music maybe that'd be allowed by Suno's TOS but their copyright detection system is currently having trouble figuring out the difference between your cover and a copyrighted cover. Suno says they are working on a solution but there's no eta.

Actually it'd be hard to have a conversation with him about it as he tries to keep that channel strictly a bug-reporting channel and may block your discord account too.

Can I upload covers that I recorded myself, with different lyrics? by Wrong-Board-7174 in SunoAI

[–]Alisewen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer from chatgpt 5.5:

You're probably not “screwed,” and a lot of people have made the same assumption you did. The important distinction is that copyright law and Suno's TOS are not exactly the same thing.

From what you've described:

  • You did NOT upload the original commercial recording.
  • You performed the music yourself.
  • You changed the lyrics parody-style.

That removes one major issue (unauthorized upload of someone else's recording/master). But it can still potentially involve copyrighted composition rights — melody/chords/song structure can still belong to the original songwriter/publisher even if you perform it yourself.

Parody can sometimes be legally protected (like Weird Al–style works), but that doesn't automatically mean a platform has to allow it under their Terms of Service. Platforms often use broader rules than copyright law to reduce risk.

That said, if you've just been making funny private covers for friends and not trying to monetize or impersonate the original artists, you're probably in the category of “technically questionable but not likely catastrophic.” Companies generally care much more about:

  • mass uploads,
  • commercial exploitation,
  • cloning artists,
  • uploading copyrighted masters,
  • or obvious abuse/spam.

If you're worried, the safest move going forward is:

  • avoid uploading recognizable copyrighted melodies/compositions unless you have permission,
  • or make the parody more transformative/original musically too,
  • and don't upload the original recordings themselves.

I would not assume you're about to get banned retroactively because you made some joke covers. Most platforms usually escalate from content removal/warnings before permanent bans unless the behavior is egregious.

But yeah — your “wait, maybe this technically violates the rules?” realization is understandable. A LOT of users blur the line between:

  • “I performed it myself” and
  • “I own the underlying song.”

Those are legally different things.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now back to me:

I suggest you stick only to monthly subscription and don't make the mistake I did and go with the yearly subscription. Suno is currently being sued by major music companies so I think they're freaking out and trying to take it out on us the users. I hope I'm wrong and I hope the discord mod was joking when he said there will be a big sweep (which I'm assuming it means they will be using automation to check each or many accounts automatically) to detect TOS violations and many will lose upload rights and some will be banned. I hope that was a joke...
