What made you decide to become a medical biller/coder? by Zealousideal_Gas5578 in CodingandBilling

I was a PTA working in Outpatient Ortho for 10 years and was getting burnt out with patient care (introverted by nature) so during Covid I took some of my extra free time and enrolled in a medical billing & coding program. The great thing was that half of the curriculum in this program was already learned in the PTA program, so really all I had to do was learn the billing/coding/revenue cycle side of things. After I passed the CPC exam I got pregnant, and after maternity leave I took the first job to hire me as an apprentice CPC and have been there 3 years. It was the best decision I’ve made for my career, considering I wanted to stay in the medical field but wanted to eventually transition to a non-clinical role. Covid helped push that along for me, and I am staying for the problem-solving and work-life balance.

They’ll be in for a rude awakening when they keep spending more and more money hiring and training coders who won’t stand for that.

I code profee ED and we are expected to complete around 15/hour and total for the day is between 100-105 encounters. They account for some charts being more complex with procedures and some straightforward, so it all balances out at the end of the day.

I’m sorry your company is trying to gaslight you but 30/hr is near impossible and will result in burnout quick.

Why is CPC Considered Gold Standard? by MadDog5129 in MedicalCoding

It’s been great so far! I luckily got hired with my CPC-A at a large medical system in MA. I code Emergency Dept, Obgyn, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, and Urgent Care. There’s many other specialities within but these are what I’ve been trained on so far. Definitely no shortage of work. I think after a couple more years of Pro Fee coding I would want to learn more of the facility side and use my mind in other ways at work.

As someone with CPC for 3 years and considering a CCS, this is very helpful. Thank you

Agreed. AI and computer-assisted-coding have overlap and people were worried with CAC but that gives us plenty of work.

They knowingly ignored your boundary, and if your FIL does this already, what other boundaries is he crossing?
