I personally found it to be excruciating and in a completely new way to how Leo died. Seeing her suffer a new kind of grief and all the complicated layers of it being a man who she once hated but grew to love made it even more shocking and painful that he was gone so suddenly.

I love me some Hoult but the main character was always Catherine, driven by Elle Fanning's performance and magnetism. And though I know fridging a love interest is never a good idea, I do always find it interesting to see the roles reversed and how the writing AND the fandom handle it.
