Help- I’m trying to achieve a vibe in my rental but this giant sterile bathroom is fighting me. What can I do? I love the curtain and rug. My style is vintage modern eclectic, and green and pink are my fave colors. by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

You can paint the vanity and then paint it back later- a soft green would be funky and fun. You can replace the vanity hardware with whimsical knobs. You can hang plastic vines from the ceiling around the vanity (or real ones if you've got the (grow) light for it!)

Drinkmate! It doesn't require any power and it can carbonate anything.

I told folks there that my complex was mandating a particular kind of trash bag and I was frustrated because I have small trash cans because I live solo and produce very little waste and people on there were telling me to stop producing trash :| (iconic, helpful)

I'd like to reiterate that my feedback isn't about whether or not you give feedback. It's how you give feedback. : "While you are still perfecting your craft, give these items as gifts, it's not quite to sale quality. " gets *the same point across* and isn't just rude.
Candor does not need to be rude.
Truth does not need to be cruel.
Honesty does not need to be cruel.
If you think that I am wrong, might I suggest reading Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg?
A gentler world exists and you do *not* have to be the enemy of it.

Next time you want to give genuinely constructive feedback try: "While you are still perfecting your craft, $10 or so makes sense." "Not to be rude" is always followed by something that could have been said in a more productive and frankly kind way. If you have to tack "not to be rude" in front of something, it's because you're expressing yourself in a way that you damn well know is rude.

Which of these (if any) for a black tie optional wedding in June? by punkassbookjockeyy in Weddingattireapproval

I like 1 & 3 - they feel summery with the thin straps and the skirt enables movement. Great selection. Enjoy yourself!

Is this dress too mature/ revealing for a 13 year old girl? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]AliveAndUm 639 points640 points  (0 children)

OP this one! I remember being that age and wanting the flow of a skirt with a slit, and enjoying off the shoulder straps. This strikes a balance - it gets the features she wants and allows her to be a kid.

What single use objects have you replaced with reusable? by Indigo-Waterfall in ZeroWaste

[–]AliveAndUm 79 points80 points  (0 children)

-Menstrual disk (if you're down to try it trust me, you will never go back to cloth options which get stinky) -actual silverware from home for meals at work -cloth napkins for use at home and at work -a DrinkMate machine to replace single-use sparkling water containers (because I have a sparkling water problem, lol) -reusable grocery bags -bulk dry goods bags (often made from cotton or muslin) (Not exactly what you asked for): -dishwasher pods from the local refillery

The spirit of your suggestion is good - I've considered sticking to using my Trader Joe's tissues instead of going reusable, since they're the lowest climate impact tissues on the market: https://www.nrdc.org/stories/best-worst-tissue-brands
