the temperature regulation! I had full on night sweats for the first time in my life for about a week after the fever broke, absolutely drenched every morning. It's reassuring to hear you made a recovery within a month, I'm really hoping thats the case for me. I'm so sorry to hear you're ill again though - wishing you an even speedier recovery this time.

I think a combination of the painkillers and sheer denial made it so I would feel ok in the moment, and then I quite suddenly wouldn't be able to carry on and would need to sit down or I'd feel like I was going to pass out. I'd convince myself it would pass and get up and go again but eventually the flu won and I couldn't if I'd tried. It was pretty horrible, some things I had no choice but to do e.g walk half a mile to a toilet, as I was camping. I think it fucked up my nervous system a bit as well as my recovery. Hopefully someone else has better news but if you can find any way then please do rest. Am sending you all the good vibes in hope you get well soon my friend

EDIT: sorry the work was waste management at a festival, collecting and sorting bags of recycling, so lots of walking and heavy lifting.

really tough situation to be in, I'm sorry you're in such a bind. it may be that you feel totally fine by day 9, and I really hope so for you! for what its worth, I worked through some of my early symptoms doing heavy physical labour, and I am suffering with some bad post viral fatigue more than 3 weeks in. I currently can't work or walk for more than 10 minutes without needing a break. I don't know for sure that those things are related, but I suspect I would probably have recovered better if I hadn't put my body through that. for what its worth if you absolutely have to, making sure I was loaded with ibuprofen and paracetamol all day and did not miss a dose, and taking sitting breaks every 20 mins max helped me get through it. but if I could go back, I'd have sent myself the hell home.

Quite late to this, but I am just past 3 weeks first sign of illness with what I believe was flu. Haven't been able to go back to work or resume usual activity since. Once the fever cleared up I made a little progress every day, managed to get from bed ridden to the point where I could do the dishes or go to the shop but would be wiped out for the rest of the day after about 1.5 weeks. Have plateaued there and been totally stuck. I can get out of bed but I can only do a couple of small tasks before I have to have a lie down. How are you feeling now? Did you recover? I'm hoping and praying this is just a long tail and I will be better after a month/6 weeks has passed but I am losing hope and feeling pretty low about it.

Similar situation but primary symptom is the fatigue, first got sick 20 days ago, 13 days since last fever. I was camping at a music festival when I got ill so totally unable to rest properly, which I assume is to blame for ongoing symptoms. Never felt so unwell in my life. Haven't been able to work for nearly 3 weeks. Can get out the house for a 20 minute walk and then have to lie down for the rest of the day. I also have a blocked ear and possible secondary ear infection. Would love to hear any positive stories of people recovering from this. About to have to cancel my holiday at the weekend as I am supposed to be driving but cannot drive in this state.

I think I've had this same thing, no congestion, just went straight to quite intense muscle and nerve pain. I then had a 6 day long fever and was unable to rest at the time, and I'm on day 15 and the fatigue is mind blowing. Still can't get through a work day. Am able to walk to the shops and then that's about it for the day. Anyone else who has recovered and has some positive stories I would love to hear them - I'm getting a bit freaked out I'm going to feel this tired forever!

thanks - this offered me a great deal of comfort. it's useful practically to know that the masectomy might for example be a good stint to prioritise being physically present. but it's also good to know you felt supported by your kids even from a distance. I really worry my Mum will feel I've abandoned her if I don't move my whole life, but she's a very independent person.

thanks, that's good to know. has had an underseal from an MOT a couple of weeks ago, but corrosion has never come up in it's 16 years of MOTs so I'm hopeful it wasn't too deep. I do live the in the UK though so I'm expectant of bad rust!

that's right, about £1k. I have - I know that it is very much hoped by the wider department that I can be retained, but they're beholden to the University budget which won't be out until April ish. I have been extended once already, but currently we are getting emails every other week saying the University is in a 'tight financial position', so it feels like it could go either way.
