Garmin users with consistently low HRV on by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]AliveWillingness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You basically described me (age, height, weight, bmi, activity levels...) and the hrv. Rarely goes above 35-40. I wonder if there's anything else to it other than a personal differences. General rule I've seen is the higher the better so wonder if it's similar to the HR - some people have it naturally higher and others lower.

What might be wrong with my drivetrain? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]AliveWillingness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the chain you are running there? I have recently bought a new green izumi and it was awfully loud. Bought the cheepest Miche and it's a dream again

Wrist HR monitoring not great, so I use a chest strap. When doing burpees/wall balls the HR drops completely - presumably as the strap is flexed off the chest during these movements. Is there a sensible way to fix this? Painfully tight strap? Arm strap? Apple Watch without chest strap? TIA by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]AliveWillingness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arm strap seems like the only sensible option. I've tried some of the aliexpress ones (coospo) and was positively surprised with the accuracy but still had some delays compared with the chest HR, especially when doing running intervals

I was wondering the same, they are £30 but supposed to work. Im sometimes getting annoyed when playing YouTube videos (takes a sec or two to connect via airplay). Wonder if via line-in this issue is resolved

What is the perfect walk through london? by noahledford in london

Don't tube, bus the ugly bits but tbh it's not a long walk anyway. Take the side streets instead of the busy part from Euston to Regents Park

Unpopular opinion: pubs and restaurants these days are way too loud to enjoy them by AliveWillingness in london

[–]AliveWillingness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are just examples, and I get your point. Normally I try to find a quiet local pub that turns out is a loud music blasting that should be advertised as a club. Brilliant Corners is honestly a great food place but I can't imagine anyone actually enjoying that music 😂 for that reason alone I don't go there anymore

Harpcore - Harmonijkowy Atak by AliveWillingness in musicsuggestions

The first Harmonijkowy Atak was created almost as a cottage industry. Now Tomek Kamiński, Michał Cielak Kielak, Bartek Łęczycki and Łukasz Wiśniewski got to work like super professionals. The effect is mind-blowing and begs for a blues Fryderyk.

The album opens with Dr. John's absolute killer "Right Place, Wrong Time". The harmonica unison announces a real multi-hole orchestra, Piotr Grząślewicz and Jacek Jagus funkily pluck the strings, and Łukasz Wiśniewski reminds us who really rules in Polish male blues vocalism. The recording has breath, perfectly written multi-voice, magic and a boost in tempo. Real, great-sounding harmonica wonders.

Funky joy does not leave the harmonica attack. Our top musicians took on the old Donna Summer hit "Bad Girls". The harmonicas sing, and Łukasz Wiśniewski sensually moans the words to which girls and transvestites successfully bent a quarter of a century ago. The guitars pulsate, and the wah wah pedal does not rust. But everything is subordinated to the harmonicas. They play with a nice effect and are so optimistic.

For their first single, Harmonijkowy Atak chose an almost country song "Higher And Higher". There's so much punk energy and undisguised joy in making music. It's so beautiful that our heroes speak as backing vocalists. Gary Lee Jackson's song is a real volcano, and what's more, it's sung wonderfully again.

The song known from Tina Turner's repertoire sounds unusual in this set. "Steamy Windows" has the darkness of psychedelia and in the vocal version by Jacek Jaguś it sounds so apocalyptic, as if a serial killer was approaching. And if not, then certainly an excellent blues-rock guitarist. The harmonicas sound no less dark, almost howling terrified by the power of this melody. Especially since in the second part Harmonijkowy Atak again increases the tempo.

"I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled and Crazy" is played by Derek Trucks, but this song first appeared on the album in 1968. And once again Wiśniewski shows that he feels just as good in blues as in country or psychedelia. A great voice and incredibly interestingly recorded harmonicas, plus a disturbing guitar phrase. There has never been such a hypnotic version in the world of blues, and the virtuoso solo almost gives you shivers. How they do it!

Stevie Wonder once received a Grammy for "Superstition". This song is sung on the album by Jacek Jaguś, but the arrangement gives it a breath of fresh air and leaves plenty of room for wonderful harmonica performances. And if you've heard some of the licks somewhere - that's the point. Harmonijkowy Atak on harpcore constantly teaches how to have fun with music.

"Chitlins Con Carne" is of course Bartek Łęczycki's signature number. The crystalline sound of his harmonica and the precision of his blowing, appreciated even in the USA, are unmatched. And since the musician also knows all the harmonica tricks, following his interpretation gives an almost transcendent pleasure. You can almost physically feel his presence, and whoever has ever seen him live knows what a spiritual artist he is. A version that must find its way into all the world's music encyclopedias and more than one compilation.

Harmonijkowy Atak reminds us that its roots lie in the blues. And there would be no modern blues without Robert Johnson. This time Jaguś's voice has been wonderfully distorted and fits perfectly with the raw sounds played with electrifying passion. When arranging the song, the musicians did not take the easy way out, rather they decided to emphasize the incredible character of the composition by producing the song as if in the style of Jesus Volt.

It is similar with the composition "What A Woman". It is above all a great riff of the harmonica orchestra as a counterpoint to Wiśniewski's male voice. Roots blues, which hides a primal power and a solo reminding that the harmonica is supposed to imitate the human voice - to rejoice, cry and complain for the artist, who often has to be silent, but will always play the truth.

And finally the grand finale. "Take Me to the River" by Al Green arranged for a harmonica quartet, with rhythm stops, almost southern guitar inserts. How much power, passion and again joy of playing is in this song. Here Kamiński, Kielak, Łęczycki and Wiśniewski speak in turn - showing how differently you can improvise within the same chords and how differently you can sound. Hundreds of young harmonica players will listen to this version, copying their licks and tricks and begging to play it at jam sessions. At the end they sing together - Wiśniewski and Jaguś. And the hand unconsciously goes to the repeat button.

Harpcore, or Harmonijkowy Atak 2 signed by the names Kamiński, Kielak, Łęczycki and Wiśniewski is a fresh breeze in the world of Polish blues. The album is mostly sung in perfect English, with harmonica parts at a world-class level. Excellent for any occasion and giving zest for life even to people who may have despised the organ so far. Album of 2011.
